Went to go to lunch.... no HIDs....

sometime b/w 5pm last night and noon today, my HIDs were stolen....they bent up the hood on the drivers side and just ripped it out. They also ripped out the passenger one without any hood damage. The plastic tabs were broken so they cant sell them whole. I took digi-pics, but i am too angry to upload and look at them. Car was in my driveway.....

Now i have to decide if i should put in new HIDs or get AE lights... so ****ed...

I just called a local junkyard. Used HIDs are going $350 a pair. A criminal stands to make $7000 from 20 cars. At about 2-3 minutes per car that's about $7000 in less than a hour's work.

Most likely the top part where the two 10mm bolts attach the lights to the top frame.

This is sickening.

This is crazy. We should have a thread where only people who have had them stolen post the location. We could then keep a running count and break it down geographically. I hope mine don't go anywhere soon.

Unfortunately due to post ******, that will never happen, that thread will just end up getting clogged with useless info.

Thay did the same with my HID on my 2002Max.1 1/2 month ago.
Exactly the same way they bent up the hood on the driver side and just ripped it out,the plastic tabs were also broken.

I just spoke with my father in Queens. His neighbor, who works at a Nissan dealership, was instructed not to lock the hoods of the Maximas, allow the HIDs to be stolen to collect on the insurance claim.

What do you mean not lock the hood? You mean let it sit in the "popped" position so anyone can opoen the hood by releasing the latch? I don't think it's safe to drive around like that. What if you have an intake too, then anyone can steal that. Or a FSTB, etc...

My father isn't a Maxima owner. I believe he meant that they have hood locks available but will not offer them to the consumer.

You would think that with the insurance money being paid on our repair claims, the insurance companies would put more pressure on Nissan to find a fix!!!

I have seen 2 Maximas with their HIDs missing within a 2 week period on Long Island at the LIRR station parking lot where I pick up my train to come into the city. Last Saturday as I was heading out to the island on the LIE from NYC and I came upon a 2K2 and as I passed him I looked thru my outside mirror to see if I could get him to run with me and that is when I noticed his HIDs were missing.....that's 3 Maximas in a 3 week period!

I was thinking of upgrading my lighting to HIDs on my 2K but have now decided against it....at least for this year.

you are better off leaving the hods popped just so there isnt too much damage to the body. they will get them anyway , so try to cut down on the damage at the dealers inventory

My HID's which were stolen two nights ago, had the same damage, passenger side had a small scratch and driver was bent, I just thought the guy on the drivers side was an amateur, there were two of them, I saw them run, I thought of running out, but even if I did, I would've never caught them, and risked my life, and as much as I like my car I don't want to die for it.

It's time to contact your local police department and let them know what's going on. Or at least let them know this is a big problem. Contact the insurance companies and let them know what's going on. And last and probably least, contact Nissan and the dealerships.

I think You can open the hood in 2000-2003 maxima without entering in to the car.
I think they damage the driver side, becouse they try to rich the pin from the factory alarm.
They did this in my car,and there is one Maxima wich is park on Fresh pond rd (NYC)without HID, damage exactly as mine was.
