17'' Alloy question....

I just picked up my maxima last weekend and the only thing that is bugging me is that the driver side rear wheel has some scratches around the edge of it. I am really fussy about my cars so I am looking to get this fixed. Is is possible to have the factory rims re-finished? and if so how much does it cost? Thanks for the advice in advance....

It is possible. The cost depends on the severity of the damage and what has to be done. Check out the FAQ's at the top of the 5th gen page.

I had something similar when I picked up my AE originally. I called the dealer and they agreed it was probably due to the tie down straps used at some point in transit. They swapped out the wheel with one on an undriven AE the very next day when I drove by. (No they did not put my scratched one on the other car, at least the TOLD me they were sending it back for warranty credit and ordered a new one for the dealer stock car).

Okay, I'll have to take it in for an estimate. I am sure a new set of factory 17's are a couple grand right? the scratches are small so I hope it dosen't cost too much to fix.

I wouldn't think a couple grand for a set...definitely a few hundred each...call DaveB (1-800-251-7278) to get prices (works for Town North Nissan, has really good prices for .org members, AND is a really great guy to work with) if you have to get them yourself.

Personally I would try the 'tie down strap' argument and see if the dealer won't replace them (or at least the worst ones of the set).

Sorry, I was paying attention to the 'picked up last week' part. OK, OK...in that case I would at least mention it to the dealer to see if on some wild quirk of luck they do something or at least know someone near you who may work on repairing/resurfacing and have experience with Nissan OEM wheels.

I'll call them later on and see what they have to say. Thanks for the advise.

Good luck.

Seriously, no matter what happens with the wheel issue, file away Dave's number. You won't regret it.
