If I have a 2001 Max with the non-bose system cd/tape/amfm stock head unit (double DIN)and A CD changer. What's the best way to run wires to the trunk for a sub amp? (I dont want to replace the factory head unit because it looks bueatiful in the dash) Has anyone added subs with the factory head unit in the dash?? Thanks for the help

Sure did. I installed an 8" Kicker sub under the rear deck. There's actually a cutout for one there. I went to my local Circuit City store and they built an enclosure for me. I powered the sub with an inexpensive Boss amp I had from a previous installation. The amp is rated 320W bridged (about 75 W rms) and has high-level inputs and an adjustable crossover. I dynomatted the rear deck so there's no rattle from the sub. I can't remember what I paid for everything, but it wasn't bad -- probably around $300.00.

If all you're looking for is some extended bass response, this will work very well. If you want something more, check out the Audio and Electronics Forum.

Hey thanks alot for the advice, thats a pretty good idea. How did you get the signal to the amp? (the line-level inputs) Where to they connect to? On my old car (I used to have an accord) my amp got it's signal from line-level inputs connected to the 6x9's mounted in the rear deck. Since there aren't speakers in the rear deck in the maxima (just in the doors) I was curious to know how your amp gets the music. Thanks for your help

 

I didn't do the install, but I assume they spliced in to one of the pairs of door speaker wires to provide the high level inputs to the amp. They also mounted the amp directly under the driver's seat. That way it's easy to get to in case I want to adjust the crossover.
