Realistic value of 2k 5-spd in Canada
Hey guys,
This is a question for my fellow Canucks.
The lease on my 2k Maxima SE 5-spd is coming due at the beginning of May and I already got a call from my dealer asking me what I'm planning on doing. The then told me that if I "do something" before the end of the month they will take care of the last three payments on the car (basically let me out of the lease early).
Anyhow, my problem is this. The residual on the car is something like $19000. But if I go on autotrader.ca or to various Nissan dealer sites, similar cars are listing for $24000 to $25000.
The car is black on black, with leather seats, 200W Bose, sunroof, etc (all standard on the Maxima SE's at the time) with 60000 km on the odo. Its also got the 17" rims.
I'm not interested in buying the car out, but I am seriously thinking about a 350Z. What I don't want to do, however, is drop the car off at the dealership only to see it listed on their website the next day for $24000. In my mind, Nissan overestimated the depreciation on the car and my payments were $100 higher than they needed to be. Would I be out to lunch and asking that the dealer give me $23000 for the car? I could then turn around and do a buy-out on the lease and pocket the difference, which I could apply to the Z.
Anybody have any experience with this?
