UDP installed, I like it

I installed the RVM UDP today and after a test drive i like the results. I was searching how to install the pulley last night and found a site called www.greghome.com. It had some UDP install instructions so i looked them over and his analogy to putting a UDP on is like on a ten speed bike. The stock pulley is the big gear that is hooked to were you pedal and the UDP is the gear that is smaller. It just makes it easier to pedal. The car goes through the gears faster and feels like it has a lot more power in the low range. The upper end felt not as powerful at first but I think it was because it was so smooth, the UDP made RPM'S smoother because of the precision craftsmanship. I went for about an hour drive and it felt like it was getting stronger the whole time. If you have od off you will not be able to hit the top speed you hit with the stock pulley unless you put od on. Overall i think it was a great buy, BTW this is my only mod so far. Good luck

You said you did it yourself? If so, how hard was it? Was thinking about getting one but don't want to pay a shop like $200 to install it.

Me and my dad installed the pulley. It is not that hard. We hard and impact wrench so getting the pulley on and off wasn't that hard. I have heard of guys putting a wrench on the pulley then give the starter a blip to break it loose. We had trouble with the belt that goes on the Power steering pump. they say you need a new belt but the adjust ment was really hard to do so made dad left the old belt on a tightened that. The was about the only trouble spot we had.

According to the directions on the Unorthodox sight it take 5-7 days for the ECU to adjust and the UDP to make it's full HP.

Well, it's only stupid if you're holding the wrench in your hand when you blip. People who are less stupid brace the wrench against the ground or a solid part of the car, making sure the direction of rotation has been correctly determined.

Exactly. This is not as uncommon as you would think, and actually works quite well. Anyone who would hold the breaker bar in their hands while doing this shouldn't be allowed to work on cars.

Well, regardless of if it seems smart to you, it's the easiest and most common way to remove the center bolt on the crank pulley if an impact gun doesn't do the job.

And here's another example of jerk members of this board jumping down people's throat with comments because you take things out of context. That's enough replying about this topic, folks. Move on.

I can't believe this thread was hijacked before anybody even had a real chance to ask the guy who started it what the hell he is talking about.
  1. A UDP is like the small gear on a ten-speed bike???
  2. After installing the UDP, "the car goes through the gears faster"?????
  3. "If you have od off you will not be able to hit the top speed you hit with the stock pulley unless you put od on"??????
I don't even know what the last one means.

Andrew3616...all a UDP does, really, is reduce the power delivery to the accessories and power steering belt essentially recovering some of the power which is lost driving the accessories and power steering pump. It isn't a gear or anything like one, it doesn't cause the gears to shift more smoothly due to its precision craftsmanship.

I'm kind of tired after a long day of flying, so sorry to start so sarcastically, but it will generally take some time before your ECU actually recovers some of the hp lost on the stock pulley. Most people report a couple weeks with consistant driving. I think I noticed minimal gains after several weeks. Day-to-day, you really shouldn't notice a thing unless you are comparing the driving experience to the stock pulley with the radio and A/C blasting full strength.

I think what we have here is a case of an overactive butt-dyno.

Oh, and before I got my impact wrench, I used the "bleep the starter" method quite successfully.

One more question. I have two amps in my stereo system. Would a UDP rob my amps of juice or could it maybe hamper the alternator? Thanks.
