got AE lights, what about HID now?

I was installing my anniversary edition headlights into my car, and I realized how easy it was to steal these things...man, I didn't have any instructions and I got them off in five minutes, but that's neither here nor there...

Anyways, my plan was to install an aftermarket HID kit into my Maxima from Hanabi or Philips or something, but I was talking to cracker99max, and he was telling me that because of the single-bulb system that maximas use for their high/low beam, that I would lose my high beams if I went with an aftermarket setup. I'm really not happy about that, since the high beams are a very necessary tool to communicate with other drivers, and just something that I'd like to have. My question is, is there any way to get high beams to work with an aftermarket kit? I don't want to buy 2k2+ lamps because I am afraid they will get stolen. Can any aftermarket HID owners of 5th gens share some of their experiences? thanks.

You have two options:

A. Buy 2k2 housings with 2 projectors per side to utilize HID low and Halogen high beam.

B. Buy dual-beam HID H4s for your AE headlights.

No name-brand companies make dual-beam HIDs? Like Philips, Hanabi, etc.

Hmmm...that dual bulb thing sounds like the way to go. I don't want 2k2 housings because then they'll get stolen. I just wish, like someone said, that there was a bigger brand behind these things. Thanks Kramerica72, you're always full off good advice

There is a Philips Bi-Xenon kit(made by Hella).

That's about as big of a name as you will find. Let us know what you get and how they work!

Hi guys, after spending many hours searching infos and prices about HID conversion kit, I found out that most if not all the dual beam HID kit, were to be use off road only, it was specified illegal for street use. Grrr... $hit man, that suck, no one want to spend time and money to install nice HID kit and get ticketed later so that's kind of a problem for me, if anyone find HID dual beam street legal let us know, HID in the 2K1 SE housing is not a bad idea at all.

Cheers

I have had an H4 D2R HID kit in my 2000 Max for nearly 2 years. The lack of high beams has been an issue which is why I purchased OEM HID assemlies (if I can ever get the dang things installed). One great option that exists is transplanting an HID projector into your headlamp-many people on the lighting.philips.com forum have done that with great success. Also check illusion-lighting.com for pictures of what a projector can look like transplanted into a reflector assembly. Hella makes a dual beam HID capsule which utilizes a solenoid to move the low and high beam element back and forth-this would be effective in an H4 projector setup or a retrofit. Keep in mind that HID in halogen optics will never look as good as OEM HID optics. Hope this helps.

Then again, Wasim is way up in Binghampton so h.i.d. theft shouldnt be that big a deal. Now, when you come home just drive the corolla..

I wish the manufacturers would hurry up and drop their prices to below $300 for these kits. Maybe then, there wouldn't be a market for the OEMs. What kind of respectable thief would risk getting caught for a profit of say 50 bucks??
