Pilot Sport A/S owners in snow areas...
I'm looking to upgrade my Potenzas and am intrigued by the Pilot Sport A/S. I was wondering how Pilot Sport A/S owners that live in areas where snow is predominant feel about their tires. I live in the Chicago area and the lowest price for the Pilot Sports I could find is $205/tire. Any and all input, especially those with snow experience using these tires, is greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm looking to upsize to a 235/50/17 form the original 225/50/17. Anyone have any input on this as well with the Pilot Sports. I DO NOT want to jump to a 235/45/17, so please refrain from commenting on the 235/45/17 experiences. Thanx in advance.

Pilot Sport A/S
I bought a set of these for my Audi A6 quattro. They handle very well in the dry, and absolutely rock in the snow, but need 36+ PSI on my car (much heavier than the Maxima), or they wear unevenly. The high pressure results in a stiff ride, something I think would be exacerbated by the SE's already-stiff suspension. Since I bought my Maxima more as a sports/tourer, I would go with a softer-riding tire (like the P6000), but this is a personal issue. Best price I found was at Costco (a little under 2 bills for 16"; your price sounds really good.)

I am planning to get Pilots soon too, not sure if I should go with stock size or go with 235 wide tire.

I live in NJ and have the A/S's 235/50-17's on stock rims and stock suspension. GET THEM!!! I have found them to be great in the snow. I live in a hilly area. I got up steep hills with them in the snow when I couldn't even get up slight inclines in the Potenza's. Also great in dry and rain! Have over 16k on them with no signs of wear. Well worth the $$$ vs. other tires.

I live in Binghamton, NY, and I just got these put on my car two weeks ago on my stock rims. It's snowed a lot since then, and the car is a lot more sure-footed in the snow. Well worth the purchase, and an amazing upgrade from the stock potenzas, which were awful.

I also live in the Chicago area, and got the PS A/S's in the OEM size. No doubt in my mind, money well spent, especially with the recent snow. No problems at all. Don't even compare to the RE92's, which could be mistaken for full blown slicks in the snow.
I managed to get in on the Michelin sale at Sears (Spring Hill Mall, West Dundee) just before Christmas - roughly $880 out the door (it was like $188/tire or something like that).
From pictures I've seen, the 235/50/17 has a little too much sidewall for my liking, but to each his own. I also had Maxspeeds waiting to be installed (which I installed this past weekend ), so I knew I didn't want a taller sidewall.
Hope this helps.

I'm in Indianapolis and I have the PS's, too. Superb wet/dry performance. But I chickened-out and put Dunlop Winter Sports on for the winter anyway.
We got hit with a ton of snow on Xmas eve and I had to drive 60 miles in the middle of the storm. As good as they are, I seriously doubt the PS's would've been up to it. Maybe I'm wrong?
