From what I understand higher is better for X, K, Ka and instant trigger. But lower is better for laser since the band is very small and they are shooting at your fron plate (thats way I don't have a front plate).Anyways all laser detection is going to tell you is that you have gotten a ticket via laser. Because you will not get much (if any) warning with a laser radar gun.

So I have mine up high.

Laser goes off. Your speeding. You just got a ticket.

Thats my 2 cents

Mine is mounted correctly and I have been saved many times as well. I also dont need to hide my decector, its perfectly legal in the state of Florida. Mabye I can see hiding it in VA, but in a state where dectectors are legal, who cares if a cop sees it. I want performance and reliability.

As far as theft goes, most radars can be removed and placed in glovebox or wherever in a matter of seconds.

If your manual tells you where they recommend it be mounted, then best bet is to mount it there.
Why would it come with a visor clip if you weren't supposed to mount it that high? I really don't think it matters. I've had it for 6 months and it's always given me plenty of warning. But yeah, I always remove my radar and my faceplate when I go to school at night. I park in the parking garage at the subway, so I don't want to take any chances.

On my commute home, there is one of those lit up contrstruction signs off to the shoulder, it's been there for like a year now. I don't know why, but this thing gives off a very strong K band signal, and you can see a radar gun under the sign. For whatever reason, they are taking speed reading with this sign.

Anywho, like i said, the K band is really strong off this thing and my Bel picks it up about 1 mile before I even get there, and by the time i pass it, the detector is going nuts. This would make for a great test.

I'll mount my Bel above the RV on the way home today and post back what I find. I'll see if takes longer to pick it up.

I'll keep everyone posted...
Hey folks,

I tried this on the way home tonight. I had the detector on my windshield about mid-way up when I first detected the K band from this sign. From the moment I got a signal, I yanked the detector off the windshield and held it behind the tint. I got no variation at all.

I do recall something on Bel's website that only mentions those windshields Ford used for some time that allowed for electric de-ice/de-fog. You can see these sometimes, it's a goldish / kinda tan reflective windshield, it takes up the whole windshield. Bel said these types of windshields will hurt detector performance, so perhaps that's what folks are talking about?

If the windshield tint area has a reflective coating, there's the possibility it would interfere with some of the radar signal geting through, but I think it wouldn't be much because it doesn't cover enough windshield. There's still plenty of area for the signal to get through and bounce around. Just my humble opinion.

From what I saw tonight, I would have no problem with mounting the detector behind the top tint, I saw first hand it did not make a difference in the precense of a weak K band signal at least.

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
