HID Theft Solution For Me

Guys,
I just upgraded my alarm system to a Viper 790XV. I had one LED installed on each head light and an extra shock sensor on the front end for extra protection. If you tap the front or even add alittle pressure to the bumper, the alarm will activate and notify me on pager. I Like the fact that the remote is good for 1/4 mile and is pretty user friendly. The upgrade was $330.00 with installation in case anyone is interested.

I think installing LEDs on or near the headlights (or maybe even inside the grille area) is a great idea. I have an additional alarm installed besides the factory one but my extra led is on the dash.

If some thief walks up to the grille & sees LEDs flashing its gotta discourage them. Also the extra sensor under the hood is a great idea too.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Anyone can do this!!!

There are dummy LEDs available or you can even buy battery pack LED flashers from Radio Shack.

I can't believe I didn't think of this....I've done this on my father-n-laws Caprice whenever he comes and visits so his car doesn't get stolen.

It's one of those flashy buttons with a clip you buy anywhere and I just popped off the cover and hung the thing on his dash. At night, it looks like the real thing.

Here is a slight problem with this idea. Someone can come and just test it to see if the LED's are just for show. When there's no reaction then your HID's are gone. Kind of like a test and run and see what happened..Thieves would now begin to think this is just a decoy. If I had HID's I'd put a paper sign on the headlight that says: TOUCH AND GET SHOT ON THE SPOT!

My LED's on each head light are installed with the alarm system. When the alarm is active, the LED's flash. When alarm is off, LED's shut off. My digital camera is not working right now, but if you guys are really interested, I can borrow one to show you guys.

This sounds cool....

...but what does an LED on the headlight have to do with theft deterance? Do theives really run scared when they see LEDs???? I'm not sure of the point of this. After all, if the theft only takes 2 minutes, what do they care if an alarm will go off?

Also, as other people said in the past more LEDs just draw unwanted attention to your car.

I would like to see some pics though. I think it's cool to have LEDs in the lights, just don't think it will do a thing for the theft of them.

I avoid parellel parking since lots of idiots don't know how to park their cars. There is no reason to bump a car when parking unless you are a useless driver. Useless drivers do not know how to measure a parking space to avoid bumping. A good driver knows how to fit a car comfortable without bumping. Plus, if anyone bumps my car during parallel parking, I want the alarm to sound so I can have the responsible person for repairs on the paint they chipped off my bumper with their plate.

But then again, no-one thinks like me.....

Actually, most people who talk about their Maximas all day long on the internet think EXACTLY like you.

Most thieves think that the car is only protected by manufacturer alarm and ignore the center LED light on dash. Another problem is that the manufacturer alarm has no shock sensor, so they don't hesitate on taking the HID's. My alarm is also equipt with police siren and strobes near the grill, so when they do attempt to steel the HID's, the blast alone will make them think twice.

-The LED's are in the lens and are not loundly brite. You can notice the LED lights only when you get close to the car during the day. At night, the LED lights are slightly brighter.

-My next mod will be a sawed off shot gun hidden near the grill so when they activate the shock sensor, their head can be amputated.....

I don't know...I see people ignoring car alarms all day long.

So did they drill into the HIDs to mount the LEDs? I'm curious as to the install as I think it would look cool no matter what.

A local Viper dealer did the install. I am guessing they did.
