I would assume to get the best prices in your area, shop around and get estimates of trusted body shops.

Insurance estimating is really amazing. My corolla (yes, I used to have a corolla) was caught in a hail storm at work, and the adjuster gave me a print out after he was done, for the $3500 of damage that those little frozen ***** of ice did. He wouldn't write a check to me since it was for over $2K - said it had to be written to the body shop and to me. Anyway, this print out had everything that needed to be replaced, how much it cost, what the labor was. It even had the cost for a tube of adhesive to put the emblems back on the trunk after it was repainted!

So, another estimate before you see this adjuster would let you say - "Hey, you missed the trim piece for this area" or "another body shop said that this whole part had to be replaced, not unbent and repainted" or whatever.

Ask the adjuster if they work with any body shops in your area. Sometimes they just say, "take it to someone we work with, and if it's over what we give you, they'll let us know and we'll pay them the difference".

I don't know about collision. Just the hail damage, and that time that evil pole at the gas station jumped out of nowhere and beat a dent in the wife's van.

As others have stated, go get 3-4 estimates to cross reference the numbers. You'll be amazed at how different they can be. In my (all too many) experiences with accidents and adjusters, they have always been fair in coming yup with $$$ figures. Good luck.

If he doesn't show up with a notebook computer with all the data for your car and the local labor rates, then I'd question how he's going come up with an estimate. My print out had every piece of work that had to be done, what had to be replaced, the labor rates, what had to be repainted, what the rate for the paint was, everything. I don't think he's just gonna say, "Uhmm, hmmm, looks like oh, how about $800" He'll have a detailed list. At least in my limited experience.

Dude, it's really hard to give an estimate because labor cost varies dramatically from place to place. Just to give you an idea what it cost in CA:

Brand new front bumper cover = approx $250
To paint it = approx $300 - $500
Brand new 2K2 HID = approx $500 - $600 per side

Plus any hidden damage that you cannot see (see picture) since your bumper is shifted slightly. Depending on how hard is the impact, your car might have to be put on frame machine that cost about $100/hr here in CA.
