Hsld Dying????

The other night I was pulling out of my parking spot when I thought I heard some clicking sounds that seemed to be coming from the differential of my 02 6spd HLSD. To confirm the clicking sound, I decided to do some testing in the empty parking lot by making left turn circles. Sure enough, anywhere close to full lock and under moderate acceleration the car was making clicking noises from the front wheel area. The same thing was happening on right turn circles. Has anyone experienced or heard of similar problems coming from the front wheel drive area of the car. Note no sounds are ever made under brisk acceleration when the wheels are straight. This only appears to be happening on tighter turns under moderate acceleration. Also this is somthing that I've noticed only recently. There are 40K km on the car now.

Cheers,
Rudy

If in doubt, take it to the dealer. I am sure the first thing they are going to ask when you say what is wrong is "Why are you accelerating under a 'full lock'?"

Have you hit any really hard bumps or big pot holes? Could be a busted tie rod or something....

Could this only be a problem with CV joint?

I don't know if it is related but on my 2000 Max I remember I had this clicking sound comming from front right side. It was because of the damaged upper strut mount bushing. Dealer replaced the whole thing and it went away.
I am not sure, but I think I heard similar sound on my 2002, I don't have HLSD...

Stupid Nissan, can't fix problems that were on the car years ago.

Thats not your transmission thats making that noise, it's a CV joint gone bad.

I've got the exact same problem on mine. Only happens when in full lock making left into parking spot at my townhouse. I didn't think anything of it at first, but I have noticed that it has gotten louder.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'll have the CV joints checked out by the dealer.
