TSB Enforcement?

If my Max was made before May 2000, and I believe I have the Transmission Control Module (TCM) old version or the
Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Shift Solenoid TSB problems, and my Max is out of warranty, no mods, and 29K miles...will I get any help from the dealerships about this?
I know this is an old issue to these forums, but I swear I've been searching old postings for answers. Can anybody help me out?

how are you out of warranty? 3yr/36k? try a different dealer. or Nissan NA. remember the engine/tranny has a 5yr/60K, and while that doesnt cover electronic part, you may be able to convince them to do it anyway.

I had 2 dealers that wouldnt do the TCM TSB. They made up all kinds of excuses. It was sickening. Finally I heard they didnt have anyone to tranny work (and the TCM isnt even 'tranny work'), so they just lied to me. I found a 3rd dealer (35 mins away), who not only welcomed the work, but stocked the parts, scheduled me in that morning and had me out of there in 1 hour flat!

So all I need to do is call up a dealer, tell them my car has the VIN that was included in the TSB, and they should take care of it no matter what?

Yes and travel with the TSB! Like TimW said expect resistance but approach it professionally, with hard and fast persistence on what is acceptable service for your car.

No screaming, or shouting, this way escalation to litigation, if needed, is easy. Don't worry this is always what's needed to deal with nissan service.

I was pretty shocked when my guy at the dealer said it shouldn't be a problem. I'm taking it in tonight to leave overnight so they can road test it tomorrow with a cool engine. I hope this gets fixed. I took it out yesterday to try to reproduce the problem myself, and oh my gosh the RPMs hit 6000 before second gear was engaged.

getting mine fixed in a week

I had same problem with my 2000 GLE. I took it in a long time ago and they could not duplicate it. I ignored it for a while. I took it back it as it was getting worse. They agreed there was some slipping, but (actual words) "I've driven worse".

They said if I paid for the $300 transmission flush it would solve the problem.

Called Nissan NA - they said take it somewhere else. (Not sure what purpose Nissan NA serves).

I went to another dealer with a great service reputation (found that out here on the .org) and they drove it, said it was a problem, and scheduled me an appointment 7 days from now.

They did not even ask about warranty or anything else.

check on the site here for good seervice in your area.

Yah, obviously the tranny flush won't fix it, so once it was fixed did it solve the problem?

I'll let you know

It is scheduled to go in for service on Monday Feb 10.

It concerns me a little that djplayboy is not the first person I have seen post a message that transmission repair was required on more than one occasion.

I doubt my car will ever reach the 89K mark.

I'm trying to get the car to what I consider acceptable working condition. Once that is done - if driving the car is enjoyable I might keep it, but my gut feeling right now is I will sell it within the next year.

I know I'll get flamed for this - but honestly, the Maxima is not as nice as Nissan or many of the .org members would have you believe. For a vehicle that is supposed to be the "flagship" for the brand, it has pretty crappy build quality. I still like driving it more than I would a V6 Accord or Camry, but at least with those cars my driving enjoyment would not ruined by regular trips to the dealer to fix a problems for almost every component (brakes, transmission, body, electrical...) except the engine.

Good luck with getting your transmission fixed - I hope mine works out for the best.

Surprise Surprise

I got my car back from the dealer. They couldn't duplicate it. Just yesterday it hit 6000 RPMs between 1st and 2nd, and today when they road tested it, supposedly, they said everthing was fine. They did a diagnosis with their consult systems, but no numbers came back. No problems. Well, what do I do now? Drive like Grandma?

keep trying

Check on the board for a good service center in your area.

some members here directed me to a dealer in the DFW area and 15 minutes after I drove on the lot a mechanic was driving my car and 10 minutes later I had an appointment to get it fixed.

I think you just have to find a good dealer service department.

My shifter worse when it was cold, but the slipping continued even after the car warmed up.

Good luck
