Had Custom Exhaust Put in!

I just got a custom exhaust done....2.25 inches in diameter, I had these replaced.....

Factory B-Pipe Removed
Factory Crushed Pipe to Resonator Removed
Factory Resonator Removed

Custom 2.25 id piping from cat back adapted to factory muffler.

Sounds great, sorta like a very very low mumble, like a G35 sounds at idle, cant really hear much difference cause of stock muffler.

Butt Dyno tells me my 4500-6500 range has improved (dont feel like its struggling as much).

Low end remains the same.

Can anybody shed some light on what i may have gained or lost?
Should I get an aftermarket intake? if so which?

Thanks

Not a whole lot you could've really lost. The B-pipes are very constrictive. For intake I'd say Frankencar, but search will help you out a lot on that one.

For a N/A 2k2, would 2.5" piping be too big?

I didnt want to pay for mandrel, and the performance shop guy said i didnt really need mandrel and 2.5 inches until i start S/C and more engine work, and that 2.25 is enough and shoe bending style isnt all that bad only a minute part of the pipe (he cut up mandrel bent and crush bent style pipe so i could see) and that anything vs. the stock piping is better.

I paid $100 installed for piping and all... and tipped him $20 since getting the 2.25 into the stock muffler and making custom mounts were a ***** to do and he made sure nothing rattled.

Thanks for the visuals. So basically your running a 2.25 pipe after the cat all the way to the stock muffler??? No more resonator???

2.5" exhaust on a Maxima may be overkill. I have a 450-500 HP V-8 that will run a 3" x-pipe reduced to 2.5" going into the mufflers and 2.5 going out the rear. Everything I read says that in that combo, 2.5 is enough. Too large of an exhaust can hurt performance by reducing too much back pressure.

I know it's off Topic...

I noticed in you sig that you have a goat! I just recently sold mine ('68 Ram Air 2 setup) to someone in Caliafornia. I loved that car, but the '65 is the one I really want. Mine wasn't stock either

On the custom Max exhaust...let us know if you decide to dyno and such. I'd be interested to see what you get out of that setup (especially for the money).

There is a common misconception about backpressure. In actuality, its the selection of a pipe which gives the highest exit velocity for the gases. Its the velocity in a normally aspirated engine that has to be maintained. This can be overcome by superchargers and turbos.....which can benifit from a larger exaust.

If I recall, backpressure plays a part in the scavenging effect of exhaust gases. If youe reduce the backpressure too much, you reduce the scavenging and reduce the potential power output. There's a bunch of stuff written about this on the web as well as tests where they show that too much backpressure can reduce an engines power output.

I guess you get the meaning of my screen name then. I have a 440 (455 block, 428 crank) waiting to get dynoed in the next month to drop into the goat. Should be interesting! We'll be running trips on it initially. I hope I don't scatter the rear end too quickly! (stock 10.2") Nice to see a fellow org member who appreciates old Ponchos.
