Back to Pilot Sport A/S

So, after only two weeks of driving on my S-03's, I have just ordered a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires for my Type-C's. The slippage on cold, wet streets in Seattle and, particularly, in the mountain passes is just too much for these tires to handle.

So, my 255/40/18 Pilots will be installed this weekend along with the front-end alignment I've been needing. I miss my Pilots.

On a side note...once I unmount the S-03's, I'll be selling a three week old set of 235/40/ZR18 Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-03 Maximum Performance tires at a significant discount for any of you lucky buyers out there to mount on your 18's...great for those of you who track your car a great deal or just want to drive like Andretti on the highways (not that I approve of that). Early inquiries will be accepted, but I will post in the FS forum once I have the tires unmounted and photographed for sale.

Yeah...Michelin lists an 8.5" rim within spec for their 255's, so I figured I'd go for it. With the kick-*** traction of the Sport A/S, I'm not so concerned about the extra rubber on the road.

The S-03's were just slipping and noisy and uncomfortable. If I had a day of dry pavement in Seattle over the last couple weeks, I would have given them a run for the money and probably loved the way they gripped. However, given the ratio of wet road days to dry road days in Seattle...I really need to be buying rubber based on the wet roads days.

given the weather you have to drive in, it is understandable... I run Sumitomo HTR+ in 245/40/18 and they have done really well in the wet/cold/slushy weather here. I was surprised... the only complaint would be a little bit of extra sidewall flex under heavy cornering, but they handle great otherwise. A great tire for the money

I should have just gone straight back to the Pilots when I picked up the new wheels. I hoping for a solid experience with the lower profile version.

Sup guys....long time no see

Nauman, I just got me some Sumitomo HTR+ installed this past Saturday and I love em What psi are you setting your tires at? The installer had them at 31 for all four but I found that to be too soft. I currently have them at 34...how about you?

BTW...Great bang for the buck tire!

I run mine kinda high... 40 psi. The max psi rating on them is like 51 psi... I figure 10 under should be good. I had them at 36 psi originally, but I found that a bit soft as well...

Just TELL me they don't flex more in the sidewall than the RE92's??!!
Please say it isn't so....!

I'm buying a set of the HTR+ as soon as I wear these ****e carcasses-down to the nub!!

40? Dayamn...I'm so off. I'll give it a try.

When does everyone check their tire pressure? The readings are different if the tires are cold or hot. When I leave work their at 34 and by the time I get home it's at 37. Which reading am I supposed to go by?

ALWAYS check when cold. In the morning is best (assuming you didn't just get home at 3-4 a.m.).

No prob!

I know I have had a couple weekends I planned on checking them, got up and around on Sat around 8:00 and then realized I just got in the door about 3.5 hours earlier...not enough time for them to cool down.

3 1/2 hours of sleep? I'd be dead and the last thing I would think about is tire pressure! You crazy kids....

the flex is pretty minimal... no where like the RE92's.... these tires are much better than those.

If your tires are warmed up, you should add 4 psi to compensate to what the cold-air tire inflation pressure is. In other words, if cold the psi should be 32, when warmed due to driving, they should have 36 psi.
