TL-S goes...down!
TL-S goes...down!
Evil chuckle...My wife and I are driving to a movie in the 2k3, and at a red light we pull up beside a TL-S (recent model). Light turns green, we both start accelerating to see if the other wants to play, then floor it from about 15 mph. We're both dead even when Doh!! - the auto screws me by shifting into 2nd at 6,200 rpm, and he jumps half a car length ahead at the shift.
We both shut it down, and I'm mentally consoling myself when we come to another red light - and, apparently feeling confident, he crosses three lanes to come up alongside me again. My wife is (amazingly) up for it, so okaaaaayyy - NOW, we're going to get serious.
Manual shift to 1, torque brake to 1,200 rpm (thanks to the folks who posted that little tip), light turns green, and the VQ takes over. Had a good launch, and we pulled right from the start. Shifted at 6,500, and had him by about a length when we hit 70 and I shut it off.
Mwah hah hah
And hey, the movie was pretty good too

I know you'd like to *think* that you beat that TL-S, but in reality you didn't. In reality NOBODY can beat the Acura TL-S, especially Maxima owners. The Type-S badge adds like 50HP extra, and also because the car costs more than a Maxima, that's additional proof why you cannot beat the TL-S. The Acura badge also adds some horsepower as well, whereas you only have a non-luxury Nissan badge. Oh, did I mention SportShift? SportShift on the Acura OWNZ the gated shifter on the Maxima. So you see, it's technically impossible for you to beat a TL-S if driving a Maxima. The 250lb of extra curb weight and lack of torque on the TL-S have *nothing* to do with it.

Nice kill MaximaX2!! BTW, you're SOOOOOO lucky that your wife was up to it. Mine freaks when I press the gas pedal period.
Steve, Guzo , I'm almost inclined mention MaximaX's TL-S beatdown to that dork 2fasttls on acura-tl.com but I'm afraid of catching dorkitis from one of his response posts.
Peace.

Did you ever think that the TL-S driver may have shifted early in sportshift mode (something that i personally do by accident all the time) or even took it easy considering that he beat you the first time you raced???
(I'll save you guys the trouble: The reason the TL-S lost the second race was because he didn't have navi which adds 500 hp)

No, I think he lost because Maximas have more torque off the line. Could be if we were doing top-end highway runs, he would have won. Regarding your questions:
1. If that happened you'd think we would've been even until the shift.
2. Sure. Everyone I know who likes to do this kind of thing feels sorry for beating someone, and makes them feel better by rolling over next time they race.
(sorry, but this guy's a dork)

No, I think he lost because Acuras are torque-challenged. But, what the hell, I'll answer your questions:
1. If that happened you'd think we would've been even until the shift (or is it your theory that he STARTED in 2?). And let's face it, just because you can't drive doesn't mean he can't.
2. Sure. Everyone I know who likes to do this kind of thing feels sorry for beating someone, and makes them feel better by rolling over next time they race. In fact, I'll bet you lose all those races because you're such a sweetheart.
You have yourself a nice day there, big guy.

He lost because he didn't have any Type R stickers. Ya know what they say: who needs a turbo when you can get Type R stickers for a fraction of the cost.

I raced TL-S with Body kit 3 weeks ago and smoked him by 3 car lengths, not even funny..
I started driving at age 13 in a manual for my dad, and went to Automatic because I lived in Austin, Tx, worst traffic in the state of Texas.
Now watch out.....
