Slaughtered a Lincoln LS

Coming up Hwy 404 and I see this Lincoln LS weaving in and out of traffic cutting people off at the back. So I said to myself, so this guy want to boss people around in his Lincoln eh? I'll show you some VQ power. So he came up to me on the next lane, tried to pull ahead of me and cut me off, so I floored it ... I pulled away from him right away and got between two cars and got into an open lane. I floored it again until the Lincoln appears to be a dot in my mirror. Time to exit, and stopped at the light. He pulls in from behind and by that time, I think he'd be thinking, **** got beaten by a Nissan. He must think that because people who buys a Lincoln LS would know nothing about the VQ. If he does, why is he in the LS right?

correct me if i'm wrong but i think the v8 only comes in auto, which could help to explain why it couldn't even come close to competing

v8 is 0-60 in 7.2, v6 with manual is 7.4
It's a heavy car with not enough power. Dont try it on the twisties unless you've got some suspension mods, because those things handle well. There are rumors of a 400hp v8, but who knows.

I think you all are giving him a hard time because he's a newbie. It's good to hear someone who likes their maxima, since there are too many damn people on here that just talk **** about their max. Nice job man, welcome to the WOT club! (WOT=Wide Open Throttle=flooring it)

I walked an LS V8 easily in my 99 5spd. I didn't realize he was racing away from this light until I had already short-shifted to 2nd at 20 mph (he saw me go like hell away from the previous light and wanted to play I guess). So I went WOT from only 20-25 mph in 2nd and still pulled about 3-4 cars on him up to 80 mph. And then he did a ricer fly-by.

Now just imagine if I had actually tried

The LS V8s arent that slow. If you were in second and he was WOT and still pulled 3 cars, it was a V6. The new ones run pretty well now that they got a little more hp.

uhhh...no

4G manuals aren't that slow, and LS V8's aren't that fast.

I only had my window down (back in the summer) and heard his big V8 at WOT right by my driver's window, and then saw the V8 emblem on his rear after I shut it down and he did a ricer fly-by

The new 2003 LS V8's are faster with some variable valve timing added up to 280HP I think. The 2002 and earlier are only 252HP, and like 3800lb with an automagic. The new one would be a much closer race, but this was an 02 or previous.

There is something wrong with that V8 then. 4G manuals arent slow, but they arent the fastest when starting in 2nd at 25-30 mph. I find it hard to believe you pulled 3-4 cars on the guy.

The new ones ran high 14's, which is pretty quick.

There was nothing wrong with the LS. Just too heavy and crappy gearing.

CarTest2000 Results:

Lincoln LS V8 starting from 25mph in 1st gear.
1999 Maxima 5spd starting from 25 mph in 2nd gear.

25 mph roll to 660ft
LS V8: 8.7s @ 69.7 mph
Maxima: 8.4s @ 75.0 mph

25 mph roll to 1/4 mile
LS V8: 14.4 @ 87
Maxima: 13.7 @ 92

In the actual encounter it was pretty even until 60 since the LS V8 gears are specifically optimized for that. But after that their drop to 3rd is huuuuuuuuuuugge and they fall out of the powerband which is when I walked away.

Lincoln LS

Actually I believe from the creation of them in 2000 they are making over 260hp+ and the auto comes with the tiptronic. I test drove a 2k1 when I was shopping for my max and yes the V8 power is quite impressive as was the mpg (not) and I was hooked on it.....until I drove my 2k2 max. Good kill!!!

he still would have smoked it...

if he has a 6 speed 3.5L, he would even smoke the latest 280bhp version of the LS V8...

do you have those stats for a 3.5L 6 speed?

I'd like to see how it does against the new 280hp LS

Never argue with Steve, he's shut Russ down many-a-times in the heated Max VS CL wars.

I raced the 252hp LS V8 a couple of times and it just doesnt have the pull of the VQ35 Maxima. But don't sleep on the 2K3 LS V8, if the dorks @ C/D can squeeze a 14.9 from it, imagine what a real driver could do.

No too bad but it does appear that this modded concept LS is as quick as a stock 6sp 2k2 Max.

the McLaren LS was cancelled, not enough interest, duh, 350hp for $60k+?

The 2k3 LS.. someone tested it and got 14.1, forgot who it was though

and yes there are mods, supercharger kit, intake, few exhausts, springs, big brake kits, bodykits, etc etc

i saw the mclaren ls at the ny auto show and i thought it to be the most impressive car there. everything from the exhaust to the brake rotors bigger then the pizza i purchased, it was all a very impressive package. and even if its only as fast as a 2k2 max, it is supercharged, which means it has tons more potnetial

I have to say though, LS is one of the ABOVE average Domestic "Sport sedan" out there.

RWD, V8 option, nice look, and manual transmission.

Not bad at all.

only problem is... all these mods can be had aftermarket... for a fraction of the cost of the McLaren version

Congrats man nice kill! Why can't everyone who's hating on his post just post a "nice kill" and leave it be. It's just like someone said earlier in this post, only because he's a newbie. If he were Emax driving the same car and had done that to a LS Lincoln no one would've even questioned it, all you would've saw was "Nice Kill", yeah those things are heavy and words to that effect.

Not to pick on Emax, I only chose him because of his credibility and great car.
Anyway, to all the haterz, if you don't have anything supportive to say, then don't say anything at all.
Nice Kill bro.

a good ole "nice kill" keeps the flames from getting out of control...

those silly American car "sport sedan" drivers...they think they have an "american v8" and they can take on the world...glad you put him in his place...

I see what you're saying...

but it seems that when people brag about beating a known slower car (LS) people won't give a "nice kill"...

and when people brag about beating a $84,000 Luxury sport sedan, they still won't give you a "nice kill" except to patronize you.

no, emax wouldn't have posted such a thread, but just insert a different org member with credetials that would brag about it...

what can we brag about beating? another Maxima? If I beat another Maxima, people will be like...well, it was a 4th gen, or it was an automatic...so what? give our man some credit, and be nice...

BTW, your grammar sucks!...just kidding!!!!! young04, I'm just kidding.

and slickrick, i don't think you have bad grammar, i was just playin with my man young04.

Hey fellas, I posted this thread because I wanted to share my experience with my fellow Max owners. I didn't mean to start an argument. We all want to know how our cars compare in the real world right? I mean, nobody can physically compete with every single car out there, so if we all share our experience, it would not just be fun to read, but we can also get a "heads-up" as to where our Max sits in the jungle of cars out there. BTW, mine is a 2K3 Canadian Spec SE Auto.

Another note, just went to the Toronto Autoshow and saw the 2k4 Max. Man, they really did downgrade the trim quality of the interior. It's almost Altima-like (one reason why I didn't buy the Alty).
