so a 2003 GLE, completely stock, versus a 2001 BMW 740i, stock also? My roommates and I are trying to decide which has a fast car. Our place includes my 3000GT, and roommates' 1991 MR2 NA, 1999 GMC Yukon, and a ML430.

Im partial to the 740i because I used to own one and the car on the highway is a pure beast. And from a light I took my brothers 5sp MX6 V6.

Probably pretty close. Could go either way. The BMW has more power and a lot more torque, but also weighs over 4000lb vs the Maxima at only 3300lb.

On the highway I think the 740 would win (better gearing). But off the line I say the Maxima would probably inch ahead until 3rd gear.

Zero-60 on the last generation 740s is right

around 6.4 for the 740i's and 6.6 for the 740il's...the il's weigh about 200 more lbs

Now, the new 745s are a different matter altogether....52 more HP (325)and 200 lbs lighter, better tranny and a 0-60 of a tad under 5.9 secs...definitely quick

i would think you would blow away the auto 740i/il up to about 70 mph then after that he is gone ... the 750 (which came in a stick) is a beast you dont want to mess with. as for the 745, that thing is VERY VERY scary but i would guess you could come close from 20-40 then he rips you a new butthole.

goodluck!

i would say from a stop u could have it until 50 or so, but they have good gearing, somthing an auto maxima lacks badly. it wasnt a 2k1, i think around 98' or so, but i made a run with one from around 30-80 or so, and pulled a car or 2 and i started from behind him so he even go the jump. and i have a 4th gen auto, so should do pretty well, mods are in sig

well, my inlaws have a 740IL with the sport package. I can tell you, you will win till about 30 mph, and then you'll be side by side to about 60 - 70, then after that say bye-bye...

don't know why, but the bimmer seems to not start really moving good till you hit about 50...then from the top of 2nd through the rest of the 5 sp auto is straight ***** fast...

One of my good friends has a 740il. Sweet *** care and has a custom exhaust. He can't hang from the line even when I was stock. On the highway he was right there. Now that I have the Frankencar, it is no contest at any speed. I just pull away. Again, I love that car.
