Handling Observation
Handling Observation
I've had my Max since July and driven it 10k+ miles. I've "discovered" some handling quirks/discrepancies in the Max. In lower speed, quick maneuvers it snaps into place and the rear seems to exhibit a slight bit of oversteer. My guess is that the beam rear suspension doesn't allow for quick and efficient lateral weight transfer and the tires slide in order to track. In longer, higher speed maneuvers the car will predictably understeer but, the line being followed is too easily upset by mid-corner bumps. Rather than taking a "set" throughout the arc, the weight is thrown about laterally and the chassis becomes very unstable. If anyone has ridden 2up on a motorcycle, image how the handling is affected when the passenger starts moving around while you're leaned over. The RSB remedies this tendency of course. When it warms, I'll put one on and report back. In the interim, I just find it weird that the car has such different handling characteristics depending upon speed and maneuver type.

if it had predictable and consistent handling in all speeds and road condiions, the car would likely be refered to as a bmw m3.......
