SES Light
SES Light
I just picked my '00 Maxima from the dealer to look at the SES light which has been on for over a week. Tried the gas cap tricks that I learned about here but nothing worked.
I had to have the ECU reprogrammed and that took care of things.
The dealer was gonna charge me $72 to hook it up and do diagnostics but when I went to pick it up he said the ECU was covered under the warranty and they wound up charging me nothing. Dealer said that he was doing me a favor and when the survey comes from Nissan regarding the work do "hook him up".
Did he do me a "favor" or should this have been under warranty anyway.
By the way the car is over 3 years old (has 34K miles)that is why he said it was gonna be out of warranty.
Now he said that I should get the 30K miles check done and he wants to flush and refill the ATF, replace the auxx air filter and do the throttle work. Is this stuff necessary?
Thanks,
Jim

What need to be done at 30k is listed in your owner manual, everything extra is your delaer's way to make more money. Manual has only air/oil filters replacement and engine oil itself. There's no mention about "throttle work" and "ATF flush", the rest of them falls in category "look here and there" - you could do it yourself. If you want, you could do ATF flush anywhere you like, just make sure guys put right fluid into it at the end. If you don't have any performance/idle problems - leave throttle body alone. If you cant't change intake air filter yourself - you shouldn't be breathing
. In cabin air filter takes ~6 screws, new filter itself and about 15 minutes for the first time.Mike.
