Do 5th gen 5spd's really exist?...
maybe there just an urban myth?
I've looked for a 2K 5spd at like 5 or 6 different Nissan dealers and all anyone has are autos. I did however find a nice looking 2K SE in black that was an auto with 40K on the odo. for $15,988.
I'm not really in the mood to go back into debt on a car so I'll probably just keep on working on the 91 and try to get a few more miles from it.

I live in Reno, Nevada. When it was time for me to buy my company car, I looked everywhere in a 250 mile radius. I eventually drove to Northern California, where I found the color and options I wanted, EXCEPT for a manual transmission. There was at least 6 manual tranny's out of the 100 or more Maxima's I reviewed. The word from most all the dealers is that Nissan will only include one stick per 10 auto tranny Maxima's ordered by the dealer. In my search, I found that the manual transmission Maxima's were on a TE Maxima, or something other then the SE. Plus, those cars were TOTALLY LOADED... and I don't need all of the extra options.
So, in short, I found myself to be SOL in finding a decently priced manual tranny Maxima SE. And to think, the price is the same with either tranny.

Do an advanced AutoTrader.com search. I did that when I bought mine. I had to fly to California to get it because there were only 3 loaded, SE 5 speed, leather, private party vehicles for sale in the entire country.

I just did a search on cars.com.
I used the advanced search option, and put a search range in of 250 miles for TN. Also used keyword of "manual".
Here's a 2000 SE with 14,680 miles for maybe $10990:
http://www.cars.com/search/used/cc/s...onal&src=&cid=
Here's a 2000 SE with 40,336 miles for $16995:

Here's a 2003 SE with 20,925 miles for $23,998:

Found my baby on AutoTrader.com too
Autos are a dime a dozen, but doing the extra work and searching and driving to get what you really want (manual!!) is sooooooooooo worth it on this car. What a difference!

A couple of weeks ago, me and a buddy went and looked at a 2k3 six speed at a Louisville, KY dealership. It was the only 2k3 six speed in the three dealerships we contacted. The only options on it were sunroof and HLSD. The dealers here are flooded with autos, but those 6-speeds are getting more and more rare. We were infromed that Nissan stopped making the six-speeds like in October (don't know how accurate that is) so that is another reason new ones are hard to come by.

I have one too
I can definitely relate to your situation. I went to Nissan's website and did a dealer search within 100 miles of my house and just started calling each one. No one seemed to have 5 spds and it took a ton of phone calls, but most dealers were willing to take down my info. and let me know when something came in. I finally called a dealer that had just brought a 2k SE 5 spd in and it was loaded (luckily). I went down that night and bought it the following day. They are rare, but with some effort and persistance, you'll find one, and you'll be glad you held out for the manual. Good luck in your search - sounds like you have time on your side anyway (also a good buying tool).

this isn't exactly going to help you but I got mine at carmax with 16k miles on it. Its a very strange maxima from what the dealer has told me. Its got steel wheels, but the SE spoiler, and leather(but this looks aftermarket and not very high quality.) It was in the lot right when I started looking for a replacement for my last car. I think I didn't get a very good deal on it though...

Its funny to hear how rare the 2000 5speeds are, becuase I came across so many up here in CT before picking one out about 3 weeks ago. It seems that there are alot coming off lease. I picked mine up loaded with 39k for $15700. Hey did ya know this was my first post. Hope I don't get into the mod bug that so many of you talk about.

They do exist
I have a 2k 5spd, it took a month and a half to get it. In talking with my friend (Sales manager @ Al Pie Nissan in Chicago) they aren't made at the same rate as the auto's. Also it appears those of us who have sticks, very rarely trade them in. Thus, they aren't in stock as much. After looking for a used sk se 5spd in black, I ended up with silver. I don't regret my color choice, and I'm glad I didn't wait another month to find a Black one. Keep looking, I almost bought one about 90 miles away just because it was the only one I could find in the Midwest at the time.

seems manual tranny is more common on 2k2/3 VS 2K/1
When i was looking for a 2K/1 Max i NEVER saw 5 speeds in stock anywhere......i got idiot respones at dealers like "do they make it in a 5 speed?" but when the 2K2/3 came out everytime i look at a dealership they usually have a couple of 6 speeds....

Me? Not an autotragic; it's a 5 spd 2k1 SE. It took me 6 months to find it back then.

They really do exist !
I had the same problem trying to find a '99. About the only ones people were willing to get go of had 80k+ miles on them, and they still wanted $12,000+ for them. After missing 2 that sounded good by " " that much over 4 months, I stumbled across a 2000 GXE 5spd with 29,000 miles for the right price, so I snapped it up. Although it is not really funny, turns out the owner consigned it to the dealer I bought it from because it was her husbands car, he died and she didn't drive standard. Although I wanted an SE, I love the car. I am slowly changing it into an SE, starting with the suspension. My loaded 93 SE 5spd with 117k is now for sale at a very reasonable price.
So the moral is, keep looking and you will eventually find one. Oh, and yeah, my local dealer told me he had 15 people on a waiting list for a late model 5spd, so they are a hot commodity.
Good Luck
