Grinding sound on cold starts

Grinding sound on cold starts
I have an 00 SE. I bought it with 37k miles. It has 42k now. Since buying it when the engine is cold very ocassionally (on average one out of 10-20 starts, though sometimes a couple in a row) I'll get a grind when it starts. It's not while the crank is turning - but rather once the engine has started and the RPM peaks at that exact moment is the grind for a split second. I was told that it's probably the timing chain tensioner, and given how infrequently it happens I should just let it go for now.
Has anybody else had this and would powertrain cover it if I could manage to get a mechanic to confirm the problem (which would be difficult)?

I had the same problem on my 2000 GLE. It was due to the starter. I fixed it by removing the starter and regreasing everything inside. It took about an hour and a half and some patience. I did a write up on how to do in the "installation/how-to" thread at the top of the forum.
Hope this helps!
