Suspect MAF about to die...please help!
Okay I have a 2k2 SE with frankencar and jwt popcharger and have 29,000km's. I've been driving with the jwt cone filter for almost 1 year with no problems until last week. Here's what I'm experiencing:
When I try and start the car, the engine starts but the rpm's barely go up to 1000rpm and then it drops below 500 then dies. The only way to start the car is to tap on the gas slightly to get the rpms up. However, this problem only happens when the engine is warm. When I start it up in the morning in -15 degree celcius or colder weather it starts up perfectly. When the engine is warm it started idling at 500rpm. Is this a sign of a MAF about to die?
I took it to the dealer and they looked it over for 3 hours and decided to change some throttle sensor assembly inbetween the intake manifold and throttle body. But I doubt they know exactly whats wrong. On the road even at WOT the car drives perfectly, its just starting it thats the problem.

wow you suffering from the Lery syndrome. How unfortunate...hopefully your stock intake was back on when you went to the dealership? It does sound like your MAF. Hopefully it'll be replaced under warantee.

Damnit, thats not what I was hoping to hear. My home dealer already knows I have an intake as I had one for 3+ years on my '99 max and now almost 1 year on my 2k2.
What I'm hoping is that if the MAF does blow, the mechanic will order a MAF for me under warranty. The reason why I think this might work is because my Nissan mechanic guy also have a Stillen intake on his Sentra and he's all for it so i'm hoping he'll just do it under warranty.

Get the part number off the side of the MAF. If it's 22680-6N200, don't bother trying to fix it, you're screwed anyway (put on stock airbox and wait for it to die, then visit dealer). If it's 22680-6N201 or 22680-AM600, you can try resetting the ECU by unplugging the battery for at LEAST 24 hours. Upon resetting the ECU, turn the ignition key on, wait 2 secs, turn it off, wait 10 secs, turn it on, wait 2 secs, turn it off, wait 10 secs. Then start the car, but only let it idle... DON'T REV ENGINE for at least 2 mins. The car will start the learning process all over again. This may save your MAF.

Definately the MAF... Mine was doing the same before I replaced it... you may find that driving in very wet damp weather "fixes" your problem temporarily which leads me to believe its a dirt issue more than anything... I haven't yet removed my airbox piece with the boost sensor on it so moisture blows right onto the cone filter when driving in the rain/snow/both....
Speaking of which... When I remove it there are two sensors coupled to it, where is a good place to stash these???
