Anti-theft System>>>

Anyone know if our cars have a factory anti-theft system that doesnt allow us to switch out the computer without getting our keys reprogrammed. I need to install a new computer(EEC) but I noticed that my keys have the sensors. Would this mean the anti-theft system could be linked to the gauge cluster as well? I can get a used computer from the wrecking yard and don't want to deal with buying a brand new one from the dealer$$$. Does anyone have any experience with this....All help is appreciated.

I don't see a point in linking it with gauge cluster. AFAIK our ECU exchanges data with a chip inside a key and figures out that key was previously registered in its memory. So, if you replace ECU you'd definetely need to reregister your keys with new ECU and this procedure can be performed on dealership equipment only.
