Has anyone squeezed 245/45/17s on their 5th gen on OEM 17" rims???

Mathmatically they are a better (read closer) fit to stock than 235/45/17s with only a -0.7% speedo difference... I'm only worried about the width, rubbing and all....

I wouldn't put them on 17x7 wheels. 17x7.5 is the minimum recommended. However, I'm sure some people have put them on 17x7 OEM wheels.
I have 245/40/17 on mine but on 17x9 wheels, not OEM 17x7 wheels.

I have 245/45/17s on 17x7.5. I have no rubbing. But I have Micheline PS' and I've heard they are narrower than other 245's

i realize the 245s are out of spec, and so are the 235s.. Its just everyone talks about going 235 but you never hear of the 245 option, which looks like its a better choice than 235 is you look at the numbers... I've broken it down here, put yer thinking caps on

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=201789

The only downside I can think of is rubbing in the wells with the 245 wide tire... Is a 1.5" & 1.7" drop still possible?? I don't know if the sidewall flex is worse on the 235 or 245??? safety wise you know?

MaxSE2K! let me know what happens, looks, performance etc!!

I don't think you will have any rubbing problems. I'm getting H&R's put on very soon and hope there is not gonna be an issue. worst case scenario, get fenders rolled

How do the 245s look on your car now??? They should be 0.3" shorter than stock, and 20mm wider....

I have 245/45/17s on 17X8's. There is no rubbing at all. The rears stick out just alittle. The fronts tuck in nicely. Very good traction and stability, although I can still spin first gear easily. Good luck...

I know of at least one person who mounted 245/45s on their OEM 7.0" wide rims, but it's not recommended. On the other hand, 235/45R17s aren't recommended on 7.0" wide rims either, but lots of people have done that including myself. I guess it's just a matter of how far you want to push the envelope.

I just had some 235/45/17 Bridgestone S-03 Polepositions' mounted... BAD A$$!!! This has got to be the stickiest tire out there. Fit is fine, no rubbing. It actually looks to fit the rim better than the 225/50's.

Never judge a book by its cover! No matter how you slice it and dice it, Goodyear will NOT recommend their 235/45 tires for use on 7.0" wide rims. But then NO tire manufacturer will recommend their 235/45s, let alone 245/45s, for use on 7.0" wide rims. So once again, it all depends on how far you're willing to push the envelope.

I was comfortable going to 235/45s on my OEM rims after I did a LOT of research. But I wasn't willing to go to 245/45s even though their geometry more closely matches that of the 225/50s.

And looks wise??? Your now running a 0.6" shorter tire, making wheel gap ~0.3" larger, is it noticeable??? I know its not very big, but when you drop a car 1.5" its day and night difference, and now you've made the gap larger?

Thanx!

I honestly can't tell a difference in gap, but then again, I've recently lowered it too. Overall - the tires appear to fit the personality of the car better. Sure it's not safe according to spec's, but that's a chance I'm taking for performance & appearance sake.

245/45x17 were easier to find, cheaper and more choices. I love mine on 2001 AE, OEM wheels.

You find you get different cornering characteristics with the 245s? tire flex on hard cornering? you don't happen to have pics at all eh?

Last thing? If it looks dangerous, it probably is... How much visible difference is there with the sidewall sticking further out compared to the stock 225s... I want to avoid a tire that looks like

For pictures of my rear 245/40/17 on 17x9 wheels if anyone wants to see how it looks. Again, these are 17x9 wheels, not 17x7.
The front tires are 225/45/17 on 17x8 wheels.

I also can't see that much of a difference between the 235/45s and the 225/50s, and I'm still running OEM springs and struts.
