resale of a standard SE 2002
Hi -
I have found a 6 speed 2002 SE at a good deal. I was wondering if this was due to it being standard transmission. How good is the resale market for a standard vs. an automatic transmission?
thx,
M.

make sure it's not an Ex-rental.
...though most of those are autos...

Like myamin says, make sure it's not a rental. I've been shopping for a 2002 Maxima as well and a LOT of them are rentals. I doubt any rental company would ever buy a 6-speed Maxima though so you should be safe.
EDIT: Oops, I meant to say like 00gxe5sp said to do.

With the 6sp, I would imagine that they would sell for at least as much as the autos. I recall a LOT of people looking for 02/03 6sp, and having no luck finding them. These cars are an exception to the rule where autos tend to generate higher resale value. Maximas, as compared to Accords and Camrys, have a higher percentage of "enthusiasts" owning them, so that helps in the 6sp demand.
Good luck!

14.5k for an 02 is excellent, you can barely find an 00 manual for that low. Check into that car and make sureit doesnt have a salvage title etc. becasue that price is very, very, very low for an 02 regardless of what it has. Most are running from 17.5k-22k still that I see. Like the guys said most(95% I would say) of the 02 for sale are previous rentals but they dont rent 6spd manuals

Many repos are abused cars. If they can't pay for the car they can't pay for oil changes or anythign else. So your $14.5 car may need a little work down the road. And I don;t know how the title will show as a repo. That could hurt resale.
As for the 6 speed. I just bought one with 22K miles on it. Perfect condition. OEM tires look brand new, etc... Paid $17.5.

The only thing I can think of is keeping another, "secret" odometer somewhere in the car, and verify that one with the main one. I'm not sure if car manufacturers are using this method, but I think it would work (unless people find out about where these are located).

Are you guys kidding me?! I bought my 02 maxima SE 6spd for 27500 and that was like 6 month ago. A used 02 maxima selling for 14500 right now is only a good deal?!?!? Why I think it should at least sell for 24000! with a resale value of that low, who would buy a new maxima anyways?!!?!?! This totally contradicts the law of supply and demand. If i knew of this low resale value, i would have never bought this car in the first place....... sigh

If the used 6spd cars are selling cheaper than the auto's it's because of reseller and or market ignorance. The 6 speed cost every bit as much new as the auto did. And if it has the HLSD it actually costed $400 more.

The car in question is a Repo. It also has a rear bumper in need of body work. Hope this helps answer your concerns.
