Break in
Break in
Sorry If this was asked before.
I have a 2003 Se AUTO and was wondering how to break in the car
Ive read that you cant stay at the same speed, but my job is 35 miles away all highway, how do I do this?
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Wayne

Take a crowbar and...
oh wait, break in the car, not break into it..
dude RTFM, not only will you learn SO MUCH about your car and all of its "cool little features" but you will learn how to properly break in your car.. Look in the section where it says how to start up the car initially, etc..
But I'll be nice and supply the cliff notes:
* DO NOT go above 4k rpms
* DO NOT drive the car hard
* Drive at varying speeds and rpms
* Do this for at least 1200 miles
That's it, I think..

1. Keep your car below 3K rpms.
2. Try to vary your speed and rpms. If your job is 35 miles away, and let's say the speed limit is 55, then just vary your speed by 5 or 10 miles/hr. Don't go overboard and attract a speeding ticket, but try your best.
3. Be gentle to the car in general.
4. Try not to slam the brakes (or apply a lot of pressure), i.e. allow extra room for braking so that you can apply light pressure to them.
These things should be done for the first 1000 miles. I would also recommend changing the oil and filter at that time.
If you have any questions, just ask.
Procedure
I took mine out for a couple of hours each night to break it in. I went through all of the gears as much as possible. I went out late at night, so I could stop on any road. I would go from start up to 6th gear and back again. I found some hilly roads that naturally caused dynamic RPM and gear changes. The brakes got broken in well too. I think I put the first 1000 on in about a week.
The 35 mile drive is fine. Try changing speeds (i.e. RPMs) throughout the drive. Change your oil at 1000 miles to complete the break-in. I have still babbied it up to 10,000. It is fully broken in now!

Id do everything stated by Self, and vito1281. Not that maxcosity is entirley wrong, Id just not got above 3K rpms or 1200 miles. After the first 1000 miles Id do an oil change to get rid of any crap that came out of the motor during the break in period. Id then throw in some "regular" oil (not synthetic) for the first oil change so the car would continue to properly break it. U see the motor needs some friction to happen in order for it to break in properly if syn oil is used then there wont be enough friction and ur motor wont break in for a long time that is why I stated a normal oil. After 3000miles is reached (I dont trust normal oil) id change the oil and once again throw in reg oil, after that 3000 is done Im goin Syn all the way til the end. This will ensure ur motor had a good time to perfectly break in. Some of the VQ have been known to not break in til after 10K so thats why I say the reg oil til 7K which is enough 4 me. Sorry 4 the long post.
