Windsheild ruined, how much are they?
Windsheild ruined, how much are they?
today getting off the freeway a f150 with gigantor tires kicks a rock up and puts a chip in my windsheild the size of a .50 cent peice. even if for some ungodley reason it was fixable, id never live with myself knowing how bad it looks now. so has anyone had to buy one? and what kinda pricing am i looking at? Maxima's are pretty common so im thinking it shouldnt be too expensive. a friend has a galant and his was near 300 bucks....but galants are more rare than a maxima i would think, and that would have something to do with the price. anyways...input is appreciated.
check out the parts list in the stickie for the price.
u can get generic glass for 250 parts and labor. I would suggested to go with OEM.
or u can get your insurance to pay part of it, depends on your comprehensive deduction. go for the bodyshop that offers life warranty on the work.

My window got chipped a while back and my search for prices ranged from $300 to $900. The $900 of course, was a quote my friend gave me from the Nissan dealership. Yeah, I know...never ask the dealership. I just wanted to get a quote though.
I just ended up having it fixed. Can't see it at all. Granted, it wasn't nearly as big as the chip you have.

Get glass insurance....
...it only costs like $10 / year. Just have it added to your policy and wait a little while before you make your claim. I had a bullseye that turned into a huge crack in my old Durango. I called the insurance company and they set me up with a glass place and fixed it free of charge.
I asked them if my rates would go up, they said "Well, only if you had like 3 windsheilds replaced this year"

If you have "comprehensive" or "other than collision" you could have, depending on your state's insurance regulations, full windshield coverage with no deductable or increase in premium regardless of your standard deductable. Damage has to exceed whatever minimum diameter your policy or state requires. In my case, anything beyond the diameter of a quarter. Less than that and they would pay for epoxy repair.
As far as cost, the glass company I was directed to claims to use OEM quality glass, tinting and adhesives. Other than not sporting the Nissan logo, I couldn't tell the difference.
Cost to my insurer: $390. I'm certain this was a discounted price. If you don't have windshield coverage call your agent and see if he can hook you up with his preferred glass shop. You might get the discount. Good luck.

It's good that this thread came up, cause I may need to either fix or replace mine as well. Apparently, not sure how, but my right windshield wiper blade came off the assembly, and I ended up scratching the windshield with the metal part (I didn't notice at first that the wiper was messed up). So, I now have a 0.5" width scratch along the path of the right windshield wiper. It doesn't affect my vision at all since it's in the middle of the windshield, but it just looks "bad".
I know about the comprehensive option, but do you guys think it's worth replacing the windshield over this, or should I just live with it?
Nissan2k2specV, sorry to jack your thread for a second, but I just didn't want to start another windshield post.
Thanks guys

Usually if I have glass breakage due to rocks or vandals, I would bring it to a place by me in Jamaica, Queens...they are dirt cheap, use good glass and replace it in 15 minutes.
As for their source, I have no idea nor really care!

I had the same thing happen twice to my previous car, a 2001 Grand Am. The first time I called and increased my comprehensive coverage so I had a $100 deductible. It only increased my monthly payments by $2-$3. I waited a month, then turned in the claim with no problems. So it ended up costing me $100 out of pocket both times. Aside from the increase in upping my comprehensive coverage, my rates didn't go up at all.
A small rock hit the center of my windshield less than a month after I got her
I have a huge deductible on my insurance so having them pay for a new windshield was out, but they paid to have it fixed without the deductible and no rate increases (yet).
But, apparently it's sort of hit-or-miss with the fixing, since the majority of the crack is still there

Im guessing its all about what company you have, Spta, because years ago when I inquired about making a glass claim the co I had advised against it due to the possibility of a rate increase.

And shame on you for getting stolen windshields!
just had mine replaced. oem cost for the glass only was around 450. of course the insurance co went with aftermarket, but it still cost around 300 for the glass.
in my opinion, it's a step up to go with non-oem on our maximas. there haven't been a lot of posting about it lately so maybe nissan addressed it in the newer models, but i know my windshield pitted and chipped like crazy. i'm glad to get different glass on there.

Re: Windsheild ruined, how much are they?
I got a crack on the passanger side about a year ago. First it was about 8" and later it went to about 1/3 the length of the windshield. I was thinking of replacing it, but my friends told me that it's not a big deal. And now, about 20000 miles later, through the hot summer and cold winter, speeds up to 110mph - I still have original windshield. The crack hasn't changed a bit through last 11 month. I say - don't waste your money on it if it doesnt seriously bother you. The new one would cost about $270 including work. Dealer wanted $930 plus installation!
good luck.

good luck.
