Make sure you have Acrobat 4.0+. It might not work with older versions of Acrobat. If that doesn't work, there's always the .GIF files I uploaded.

I really am scared to have his procedure done!
They can determine the part number of the TCM by connecting the Consult II hand held computer. Just ask them to do it.
This is how mine was verified.

Has anyone notice that the TCM part # for the fix
has changed ? When I had mine replaced a couple of months ago the part number was 31036-3Y101...now it's 31036-3y160.
Does anyone know why and whether my replace TCM needs to be replaced again. I still do have some slippage..just not as bad as it origianally was. !!

THANKS

Yeah, I think we are in the same boat. I was probably the 3rd person to get the new TCM... way back when it first happened. Mine slips when its cold and not warmed up. I'm going to bring mine in next week. I'll add more to the Nissan Maxima Collective Knowledge.

Re: Re: Has anyone notice that the TCM part # for the fix
Exactly, mine still slips pretty hard when cold also. But, I still do notice a small slip even when it's warm. I will be visiting my dealer within a couple of weeks to discuss this with them. They've been great about it so far. I only had to mention the TSB and they were happy to fix it without road testing or anything. Hope it's as easy this time.

At first they weren't gonna replace my TCM while doing the tranny. I talked to the service manager and he stuck by not replacing it. Then I got to the dealer. He had done his homework and he decided to go ahead and get it considering they've released TWO new TCMs.

RE: TCM replacement
I have an appointment Monday morning at my local Nissan dealer to get the solenoid and TCM replaced (hopefully). The first guy I spoke to there yesterday said he knew of it but no one was there and I had to call in the morning. The head guy in the morning said he knew nothing of it (but that was maybe because he had a bunch of angry customers in front of him (?)). I'm going to bring it in with the TSB as he requested and try to force as best as I can to get the new TCM and solenoid. I'll let you guys know what happens so you know what to (possibly) expect if you bring yours in and it's not quite as bad as punkdork's.

With all the people we have on here back and forth about this, I wish we were all in the same place and could like bombard Nissan AT ONCE so we could all get a new car made after 9/28/00 so we don't have to deal with such major replacements in BRAND NEW FRIGGIN CARS!

So, has anyone figured out how to decipher the VIN numbers to see if your car comes before the ones stated on the TSB?

I'd contact Dave B... I know he works for a dealer in Austin (I dunno what dept, parts I think). Dave... if you read this thread again, can you please give us a hand?

Hey Guys- If anyone needs help deciphering their VIN, I can help you. All the "up to" VIN's on the latest TSB are 2001's, that implies to me that all 2000's are affected. I work in the parts dept, you can call me @ 888-254-6060, I can double-check w/our service guys if there's any confusion about a particular car being affected or not.

Update . . .
I just got my wife's 2K GXE A/T back from the dealer. They replaced everything in the A/T under the new A/T TSB and repaired the rear bumper under the Bumper TSB. They painted the rear bumper as well.

My initial impression is that the 1st to 2nd gear shift is much more solid. I haven't had much of a chance to test drive her car yet, but I'll try to get more wheel time in the next week or so and let you know if my impression changes.

Have them take the tranny to Level 10 and "bullet proof" it.

I had my car checked out by the dealer. They drove it for a day. They couldn't find any slippage at all. They said I have the new TCM and everything else checked out. My tranny is ok for now. It is a bit mushy from 1st to second, but doesn't slip yet anywhere else. The SM also has a 5th gen Auto Max and said he thinks the 1 to 2 shift is also mushy. At least they fixed my A-pillar rattle.

I went last week and they might have seen a problem. I have an app't this Wednesday. They want the car for the whole day and I think they already ordered parts. I can get my tranny to slip under WOT consistently now. It's much worse when it's cold.

That be nice... or just go ahead and convert it to a manual.. 5 or 6 spd would be fine with me
