Looking 4 a SHEER Slvr, why is it so difficult

So my 02 SE Grey Lustre/cloth 5sp (correction: 6sp) is getting frusting to drive in Los Angeles traffic during my business day . I was thinking about giving it to my cousin and getting an 03 SE automagic w/leather and heated.

I really want it in SHEER Silver w/blk lthr. But it seems that Sterling mist is in far more production. Is it just in my area (los angeles), or is Sheer Silver a difficult color to find, much less w/lthr.

I will settle for an 02 because I do not want to spend 26K on a loaded 03 Max that is a quickly depreciating asset. Resale on Maxima hurts. It will loose $6K the second I drive off the lot.

Does anyone know if this SHEER Silver search is futile. Any thoughts...?

Woah...you got an 02 in 5 speed? Is that even possible?

but seriously...Those sheer silvers are hot, and they are very unique (at least in 5th gen maxima land) Don't settle for a Sterling Mist - they've been making that color for four years. (not to knock sterling mist, it's an awesome color too - just common)

My bad... 6 choices at hand - not 5. How could I ever have said such a thing. I deserve a flame or two for that.

You cant get away with anything here (smile). typo... not much sleep last night

Actually, I do not like the Sterling Mist at all. And the Grey Lustre shows more dirt than I'd like. The SHEER is sweeeeet! I wish the black leather was avail with White exterior in 02. Thanks for the motivation to keep looking.

I'll tell ya what I'll do, and its only cause I like you man. I'll take the 02 6speed off your hands, and I'll give you my 01 Auto for it. And don't come back saying you would if mine was sheer silver, I may be tempted to visit maaco.

You will never find a 02 Sheer silver they didn't start making them until the 2003 Model Year.

My Altima is Sheer Silver and let me tell you..It is the easiest color in the world to care for....I love it...it never looks dirty.

I have yet to see a Sheer Maxima...they must be rare. That really makes no sense..silver is the most popular new car color.

hahaha...its really funny how with the new Altimas, Sheer Silver makes up like 75% of their production; everyone and their grandmother has one.

with the Maxima, Sterling mist seems to be the popular color choice.

go figure!

Sheer Silver and Polished Titanium (my color) Maxs are hard to find. They are rare. That is why I got Titanium. But over hear in MD, I have seen quite a few of them.

My car is Sheer Silver. If I get that Llumar tint, it will truly look like a Coors Light can.

Mine is Sheer Silver fully loaded. I spent 2 months traking down my car and finally got it in Feb.

Yep, mine is Sheer Silver too, and it took me a while as well to find it fully loaded (minus Navi) with 6 speed, and this was back in Oct/Nov of 2002. It'll probably be even harder to find them right now.

I also don't see many Sheer Silvers around or the Polished Titaniums. They were only available in the 2003 year, so that's probably why.

The sheer silver is very easy to take care of, and pretty much doesn't show swirls at all. Be careful though--if you get a chip on the bumper or hood, you'll see the black primer underneath, so that will stick out like a sore thumb on a silver car. That's the only downside that I see right now.

How bad is the LA traffic that you're talking about? Cause you may end up regretting going with the automagic instead. I drive in Boston traffic, which is arguably much better than LA, but nevertheless, it's a 2 hour commute each day. The 6 sp is very simple in traffic, so I don't see why people say it's so hard. The engine is very torquey so you can leave it in a variety of gears and still putter along. It's not like a weak 4 banger that you need to constantly make sure you're in the ONE correct gear. I don't know, but if I were you, I'd look for a Sheer Silver loaded with 6 sp though!

I bought a sheer silver '03 SE auto about 3 weeks ago in Costa Mesa but I think it was one of the last few they had. Call Toni Martin (internet sales manager) at Connell Nissan and ask if she can find you one.

You could also check out Mossy Nissan in the San Diego area and view their inventory online to see if they have one. Mossy doesn't trade cars with other dealerships though so you will be forced to deal with them if you find a car you like. They still had quite a few '03s when I bought my car.

Vito - agree totally on the easiness of caring for the car. The color has made me possibly more **** than ever on looking for marks or whatever.

Within 2 weeks of owning the car, someone hit it behind the driver's rear fender - creating an 1.5 inch black mark (probably the primer showing). I have to take a pic of it to get some advice on how to get it fixed. Definitely don't want to pay a lot for this.

I'm starting to see what everyone is complaining about as far as paint chips. Not happy....

Yeh, I feel your pain bro. I think I may post pics of my damage too. I have a few chips and a scratch on my bumper from people's skills at parallel parking, and also an imprint of some truck's exhaust pipe (that's the one that REALLY ****es me off).

I want to get these fixed cause it kind of hurts looking at it, but on the other hand, I'm not so sure the day after it gets fixed I won't get another one. It would be a never ending cycle of dumping money into bumper repairs.

Chips on the front from road debris aren't bad. I have a few, but nothing out of the ordinary. Of course I try my best to avoid situations where I can get them, but all considered, it's not bad.

Oh well, I'll have to see.

No doubt that Polished Titanium & Sheer Silvers are hard to find. Even back in October when I got my 2K3 I went to 8 different dealerships just to find a Polished Titanium on the lot to see if I liked the color. Back then there seemed to be alot more Sheers available. At least around here, I definitely see more Sheers on the road than Titaniums.

The polished titanium is the bomb. Especially with the titanium wheels. Looks like I bought 1 year too early. I like the Sterling mist as well though.

Just curious, what would you be willing to pay for a used Sheer Silver with auto, leather, TE and Meridian packages?? With say........almost 6K miles?? Oh, and Llumar tint!

.....darn, you're in LA.........well, PM me I guess if you're interested.

very tempting... i was looking for a local car (without winter history). maybe im too picky for what im looking for.

funny thing is that i've gone to your page and admired the SHEER/blk leather you have a couple times before!! small world.

im curious, why would you be selling the car after only 6K. do you want something else? issues w/the car?

Hey, I gotta bite!!

Yeah, definetly a small world, like you said. But in all honesty though, I'm not sure if I want to sell it yet, I guess I just figured I'd pop the question to see what price I would be able to get for it.
Nothing's wrong with my max, its in perfect condition, but sometimes, I either wish I bought the 6-speed, or I kept my 01 Altima auto, and bought a used 4th Gen 5-speed instead, so I can have 1 car to play with and the other for commuting.

*sigh* Ah well, could've, should've, would've.

The Grey Lustre's a nice car, and it would've been my 3rd choice, after Majestic Blue. You should reconsider keeping your 6-speed.

I would also have to agree with the Sheer Silver being an easy color to keep clean. However, the best part about this color is the way it looks under 2 coats of Zaino. The paint looks like it has a sheet of water on it all the time. And, with the Titanium pkg wheels, it looks great.

I originally wanted a Sheer Silver with black leather... but they didn't have any with the Titanium Edition package in stock when I looked.

VERY nice color.

Yeah... mine is Sheer Silver. With the Titanium Pkg, so the wheels have a slightly deeper color. I got it last August, I think it was one of the first 03's delivered.
It wasn't my first choice, I really wanted Titanium...
but it has grown on me.

I think Sheer Silver and Ti are the best colors for this car... they help to de-emphasize the clear taillamps. (What is it about the read ends of Japanese cars?)

BTW, to badabing, who had the black scratch after 2 weeks... I feel your pain. Mine got rear-ended when it was exactly one week old. 3 wks in the body shop and a total bill around $5k... some dude in a huge pickup was yakking on his cell... Well, I'm sure his ins. took a jump this year.
