Max vs I35-is their quality really equal???

Something for you guys to ponder, I have an '02 I35, build date 12/2002 and my MAF part # is 22680-AM600. Now from what I've read on the .Org, all '02 and early '03 Max's have original part #'s 22680-6N200 or 22680-6N201, and are having their old/broken MAF's replaced with the supposedly new # 22680-AM600! This raises a rather interesting question? Why was this MAF used as original equiptment on '02 I35's and not on the '02 Max's?
Now I'm not dissen' any one here but it makes you sorta wonder if the extra money you pay for an Infiniti versus a Max is just for better service and a loaner or could the "I " be given some better quality components? Another point,if you compare the TSB's between both vehicles, you'll see that the problems they address are not exactly alike, some similarities of course, but not exact. The Max has way more TSB's. Strange for two cars that are built in the same country, on the same production line and use the same parts!!!
Your responses are welcome.
Thanks, Russ

more money doesnt always mean better car..... You have the global maxima, its just called i35 here... so that means that nissan probably uses the same parts, but its better quality.... and besides you paid more for luxury.. we paid less for a better looking and faster car... thats bad as hell...

Built in the same country - yes. Built on the same production line
- yes. But using the same parts is not necessarily the case.

I went a Toyota plant near Nagoya and they had a chip on top of the vehicle that would be read to bring the right part at the the right time for that particular vehicle. In fact, different vehicles were coming off the same line. I saw a Prius and a Crown come off the line one after another.

i didnt know that the 2002 I35 was still being made in December 2002, I though the 2003 started being produced in mid 2002 just like the 03 Maxima.

why are you talking about Toyota plants anyway?

you don't think Nissan is using the same parts on Maximas and the I30? as far as the mechanical parts concerned, they're identical to the teeth. all Infiniti parts are marked as Nissan parts. even for the Q45. Infiniti is a glorified Nissan, just like Lexus is for Toyota and Acura for Honda.

you pay more for the car for the chrome badge, generally a much better customer service and for the free loaner cars. my 2 cents.

that MAF # AM600, was used on late 02's and I'm pretty sure all 03's..thats when they fixed the MAF issue....

as for the quality difference...look at the price difference...for those extra bux, u get better materials and a loaner car...

Newbie's got a point there. I believe that's no different than comparing a manual 2K2 Maxima to an autotragic Maxima. Put up same tranny if you want us to put any weight on the numbers. From a newbie too!

Irvine78,

I was using an example of a Toyota plant since I had first hand
experience at the plant. I have not visited the Oppama plant in
Japan where my Maxima was built.

I agree that the mechanicals are likely identical, but not having
the computer build specifications between a Maxima and I30/I35 I
could not say for sure. Does somebody have first hand experience at the
Oppama plant?

Interestingly, in Japan the manufacturers are beginning to give
different names like in North America (Nissan/Infiniti).

When I was looking at the 5th Gen Maxima I was basically sold. That was until I had an I35 loaner for my Ex- Grand Cherokee. The I35's interior was lightyears ahead, IMO, than the maxima. That is what sold me. I had no interest in stick, so the speed factor difference was nil. The leather is much nicer in the I35, the interior seems more lush. I found that the dash was a bit more slanted in the Maxima, which I didnt mind, but ended up liking the I35 angle better.
