cheap speed boost! wax + oil ...

well folx, i think ive found the fountain of youth!

over the weekend i spent a total of $80 to get some extreme performance upgrades - a fresh coat of Meguires ScratchX, Meguires Gold, and a full Valvoline Synthetic oil change. i can tell you that my 1/4 times jumped atleast a 1/2 a second and my trap speed is probably up 2-3 mph, not to mention to the atleast 15 HP bump - i figure its from the reduced drag from that smooth as glass finish, better combustion from that full oil pan of synthetic oil. its amazing!

in all seriousness - has anyone felt improvements from synthetics? i really feel like the engine is idling nicer and feels "tighter" ... maybe its just me. and the car really looks sharp with a single application of the meguires! i was impressed how well the scratchX really took a few of those light scratches and some nasty swirl marks (from my dealer's handy work) out. it did make me freak out a bit when i saw all the chips on the hood. including a RUSTING chip right off my windshield riser post (driver side). need to get that attended too immediately.

anyhow, thanks for reading.

cheers -
jerome

Around $30 for the synthetic oil and anywhere from $5-10 for the oil filter. This is changing it yourself. Taking it somewhere to have it done for you can run anywhere from $40-60

i pay about 26 for my oil changes but that includes a new drain gasket each time with mobil one and nissan filter. i can say ive never sweated and only got dirty when i decided to do it outside of the garage and the wind decided to pick up. taking my time, it takes about 20 mins to do.

i swore i never would let someone else change my oil for me. until i bought my audi a4 and said "f this". now i just let the boys take care of it - besides, if they do anything wrong its covered (ie: engine replacement if they dont tighten up the filter). which is a lot more re-assuring then kicking myself in the **** if i mess it up. (although oil changes are nearly idiot proof).
