Stock speakers, do you need an adapter for aftermarket?

those crutchfield brackets don't really fit too well. they will work but it is not a clean fit. i had clearance problems with those brackets. the window would bang against the speaker when slamming the door with window fully down. so i was just forced to use the half *** method. take your factory speaker and cut out the cone and magnet. use the rest of the original plastic ring as a new bracket. screw your new speaker to this. then screw the whole thing back in.
some body out there has a site with picts on this.
damn i should have taken some picts.
it works good. just takes a little time.

I use to work at circuit city and you do not need new brackets for your maxima. What we do is basically rip off those paper cone speakers and just cut off those plastic beams holding the magnet. make sure you cut off the whole beam. the new 6.5 in speakers should just fit on top of the bracket. just throw the paper cones and the magnet away unless ya planning on keeping it.

I actually used the white plug. I just connected my new speaker wires to the clips. That's so if for some reason I need to remove them or put the factory (I'll have to buy new ones) speakers back in. I'll still have that clip to work with.

I used the white plug too. The speaker holes don't seem to match up well with the original speaker bracket though. The holes are toward the edge. I'm using MB Quart speakers. Do they run bigger than other aftermarket speakers?

When installing new speakers, you'll have to drill some new holes to screw the speakers down with. I have infinity kappa 6 1/2" all the way around.

If you have a Bose system you should have no problem with aftermarket speakers. If you don't (like my GXE) it can be a pain. I searched the entire forum to find the answer awhile back. I bought the Bose brackets for $8 each to simplify things. The other option as described above is to canabalize the exiting speakers to use the mounts on them. Another option, as mentioned also, is to make your own adapter using MDF (medium density fiberboard). I found it easier to pay the $8 - not the cheapest route, but the easiest. Or pay Bestbuy to install them at $40 per pair (worth it for me).

Here is how I usually figure out the polarity:
Use a 1.5 volt battery, and touch the speaker wires to the + and - poles of the battery.
Do this a few times and watch the cone move. When the + is corrected to the + terminal, the speaker cone will push forward as you touching the wires.
If you got it backwards, it will pull back.
Sure-fire method...
