"Cannot duplicate at this time..." No ECU fix for me!

So I tell the dealer there's an intermittent hesitation/lack of power around 3K RPM (there is) and could they please apply the TSB for it. They test drive it 30 miles and when I go to pick it up they say "We couldn't duplicate it." Lousy dealer. Looks like they've lost my business.

Or they may spit in your oil.....

Sad but true you always have to act a fool to get things done half way right. I've always left nissan service in a hail of heated vocal exchange.

Thanks to the org I don't have to go to them for small service items

I've only had my Maxima for about 3 months now, but in that short time I've learned that this seems to be the only leverage we have against the dealerships. Either through the surveys they send or by calling Nissan directly. First, try going to another dealership and tell them you already spoke to Nissan Consumer Affairs (even if you didn't). Tell them that you tried to have the car serviced at another dealership and they wouldn't do it for you, so you called Nissan to find out what to do next. When you described the problem to Nissan over the phone, they told you about the related TSB. I would bet at that point they do the TSB with no hassle. If not, then do what playero said and actually call Nissan. This always gets results. I had a similar situation when I first got my car...Nissan called me about a week later to do a survey. They asked if I had been called by my salesman or anyone else at the dealership since taking delivery. I said no. No more than 15 minutes later I got a call not from my salesman, but from the Sales Manager of the dealership asking if everything was OK with the car. So it doesn't take long for word to get back to them from Nissan.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. "Pay them for the 1/2 hour of service and you won't have a problem". I paid my Service Advisor $37 and he gladly did the ECU reprogramming.

Don't pay them crap! Go somewhere else and let them know you're going to rip the other dealer on the customer satisfaction survey. They test drove it 30 MILES? Holy crap...I'd let them have it for that. That's ridiculous.

My. $.02

Dude, I don't know about you, but $37 isn't worth me wasting several hours of my precious time.

He has correct, get a good relationship with your Service writer and he will be your best friend. My nissan service guy now services my Explorer, that is how well we get along.

My dealership already has 2 pots of coffee and a bunch of bagels out all the time so that won't work for me.

Donuts, donuts, donuts. Bagels won't do for work on the car. The bagels are for the uptight customers. Donuts are what real mechanics want

I think I might try this next time. The car's gotta go in soon for the damn hood rattle, so maybe I can get the ECU update with a little help from Krispy Kreme.

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin. It's how Nissan lets dealer's service department know about new common problems.

The particular TSB being discussed here is for hesitation. Short description is drive steadily at 2k-3k rpm (can't remember exactly, I didn't have this problem), then fairly quickly push the throttle (don't floor it). Car will stumble for a second or two.

It should be covered under your warranty (assuming you're still in warranty, since you bought at 18k), and it's unlikely it was done before you bought it. This TSB came out something like two months ago.

There's also the theory that this TSB will cure the throttle lag problem of the drive-by-wire throttle (throttle doesn't respond instantly to 1/3 or more gas pedal from a stop). I'm on the fence on this one; the ECU flash didn't fix mine for good, but flushing the ECU memory and advancing the timing did.
