i have seen a lot of 4th gens with gold badging, but i haven't seen any 5th gens with it, why dont the 5th gens have it? i know that some of the colors dont go to well with gold, but colors like the green and burgundy look pretty good with it, what do you guys think?

I saw a 5th green Max with the Gold badging on it, and it did look pretty nice. My dealer puts gold badging on some of the Maxes and other things (e.g. rims) and sells them as a "gold edition" car. The super black looks good with the gold too if it has other things that are gold, like the door handles.

Gold packages are almost always dealer-installed. It's your dealer's choice whether to put it on, if there's demand then they will.

In my not so humble opinion, gold badging is tacky.

There's a Black Lexus SUV with gold badging in my subdivision, its vanity plate claims "classy". Well now dear, if you have to tell me you are classy, chances are you aren't.

I felt the same way until I saw it on an off-white (sorry don't remember the name of the color) GLE. On that color it looked pretty tight. I was surprised because that's the only color I've seen gold badging on that I've really liked.

I like white/pearl cars with gold badging. I plan on having someone plate mine someday, however it kinda depends on the rims I choose. I looked into buy a chrome/gold plating system myself, but the cheapest one was like $1500+ so I figured it would be cheaper to let some else do it.

Golden Max

My 2K1 AE 5spd came with the dealer add on "gold package". It added about $300 to the cost. Since this was a dealer search car and the only one in the Southeast that met my specs, I wasn't going to turn it down because of the gold. My color is Merlot, and I would have never asked for the gold; like the other guy, I've always felt it looked tacky. Well, I've changed my opinion! On this color it looks great. The gold was applied to front and rear Nissan logos, the Nissan logo on the engine cover (cover unique to AE), the key hole for the trunk, and the text "anniversary edition" on the 20th AE badge.

Of course, it is wildy overpriced, but it is sharp. If you like it, go for it. You'll never get the investment back, but what the heck.

srm

It's a big money maker for the dealer, probably costs next to nothing for the gold electroplated plastic badges, but they charge big $$$ for the "kit". I always see a large number of Toyota and Lexus cars with this option in my area, seems like they push that option pretty hard. It's a cosmetic mod, so if you like it go for it. Personally on my car, I wouldn't do it.

Nasty!

I hate gold badging! Let me see..how can I make this car look like a 1983 Cadillac Sedan Deville Pimpmobile...

I would totally understand if you found the car and it was EXACTLY what you were looking for except the badging...but I would never pay $300 for the nasty ****. After 3-5 years the stuff goes totally dull and looks like old brass !

I guess that group deal on Boomerang antennas and fuzzy dice isn't gonna go over too big, eh?

Well its not exactly the same but I've been considering getting a Supra wing or two (one for the front too). What do you guys think?

My opinion...

I think Gold Badging is very ugly except on a Blue Solara.

I don't think it looks that bad

In fact, I think it looks classy on my car. Some people do have theirs overdone ( Gold everywhere, window trim, rims, door handles, key holes, grill... How did they miss the muffler ).

Gold package- How to clean
-Use glass cleaner and spray it on. Clean off with cloth 100% cotton ( It will scratch with other stuff )
-Use clean 100% cotton cloth and wipe it off
-Use water. Clean off with 100% cotton cloth

The gold badging came as a factory option on my car. It was $389.00. I think it is easier if it came with the car. Dealers can and will overcharge you on this option.
