tire looses pressure slowly. What could it be?
tire looses pressure slowly. What could it be?
When I had to go to work this morning, I've noticed that my front right tire is deflated. Not completely, but very noticebly. So I checked the pressure, and it was 10.5 psi instead of regular 32-33psi. $#%#@!!! I slowly got to the nearby gas station, inflated it to 34.5 and then had to drive to work. About 10 miles later, turns, bumps etc. i finally got there and checked the pressure again - didn't change at all - 34.5psi. Then about 9 hours later, when time to go home, the pressure dropped to 27.5 ;( So I inflated it again.
Anyway, the question is - what could it be? I always thought that the pressure in the tire either drops very very slowly ( couple psi a month maybe), or goes down rapidly if something is wrong (withing few minutes).
Any suggestions??

A nail or screw might be in the tread.
Remove the wheel, look for something like that, pull it out, patch it, re-inflate, done.
That happens to me all the time.

could be that you ran over a small nail, or screew, but when it went into your tire it created a seal, so it is keeping the air in. but over time the seal losens and air slips out. this has happened to me a couple of times. i even inspected my tire completly and found nothing, but when i took it to go get fixed, the guy showed me the tire and there was a small nail that puntured it abut the head broke off, so i couldn't see it from the outside.
so my advice is to definetly go outside and visualy check it out, and also do what bhess sugested with the soap and water. but if i were you i would not waste any time and i would just take it to townfire tire, or who ever fixes your tires where you live. if you don't then you could cause dammage to the sidewall of the tire in which you would have no choice but to buy a new tire where as if you take it now, they could just patch it. not to mention the danger you may incur by driving you car on the highway with a bad tire.
i hope i helped you out, and good luck.

Don't forget to look behind the wheel. I had a similar issue as yours, when i had my tires rotated the next time around they found that i had a small nail lodged at the corner of the tread - at the back of the tire.
Unfortunately for me, the only fix was to replace the tire.

Re: tire looses pressure slowly. What could it be?
Same exact thing is happening to me to the same tire right now. It loses about 4-7 psi over 3 days. I'll be taking it to the tire shop next week when I'm out of school to have them fix it.
One tire would not deflate due to changes in weather, the others are fine apparently. If your rim isnt seriously bent I doubt it is loosing air from that, I would put money on the fact that there is a small hole somewhere.
thanks all!
Aparently it was a nail. About one inch long.
This morning I took the car to the garage that I usually use. The guy fixed it within two minutes. Interesting procedure, even without taking the wheel off the car. So it's ok now.

He plugged it, which is a half assed way to fix it. He really should have taken the tire off the rim and properly patched it...
