help 2000 vs 2003!?

I own a stock 2000 SE 5 speed. Would it be better to mod the 2000 or to go $5000+ in more debt for a 2003 6 speed. I love the sound of 255hp and 6 speed but the extra dough is hard to come by when your a teacher. Anyone with good info about 2k3 or mods for my SE.

You can make the 2000 alot better with a S/C or T/C.. there is hardly any mods out there for the VQ35DE in the maxima to push HP up dramatically...

Keep the car, other than the engine, the tranny isn't all that great, the 5speed in yours shifts a lot smoother..

Thanks, I have considered the S/C but little afraid of hurting the motor. I would like to try keeping this car for at least 5 years or more. Will a S/C affect the performance of the motor in a negative way over time???

Many people say the 2000 can be modded to be faster than the 2k3 but you also will void all kinds of warantees with a turbo or S/C. However, there are also other factors to consider the 2k3:

Heated Seats
Heated Steering wheel
Aluminum Pedals
Xenon Low beams (jury is still out whether this is good or not )
Bigger rims / tires
New car with full warantee
etc.

If all you want is speed, I'm sure you can get a cheaper car and mod the $hit out of it. But if you want to stay with a Maxima it sounds like speed isn't your only concern. Keep in mind that I've got a 2k3 so I may be bias.

more comments please...

I have a 99 sentra gxe but need to get a bigger car. Tha Maxima is by far the most promising. I to wondeer if I should look for a 2000 to mod or look closer at a 2003 or 2002 off lease or trade in.

True that... but man, he is going to get hit so hard on the depreciation on a 2k... To go from a 2k to a 2k3 isn't that cheap, and we are talking thousands...

The 2k3 is fast, and yes there are a little more tid bits in it, but realistically i couldn't justify the $5000 differencce to go from a 2k to a 2k3.. Warranty on a nissan? HEHEHHE

Also, let's face it...even if he gets a great deal on a 2k2-2k3, those will depreciate jsut as fast...

pretty much a double whammy...

and a large part of the fact that I plan on keeping my AE until something REALLY impressive comes out in the $30-$40K territory. Heck, at the rate things are going, shouldn't be long.

depends on your current motor condition. I would suggest to do a compression test and submit an oil report before you decide to boost your car.

after the install, make sure your go to dyno straight to get tuned. from there, how long will your motor live is depends on how much boost are your running and your driving habit.

stillen uses a large SC pulley for a reason.

I have a 2003 and I assume that the 2003 has less bugs then the 2000-2002...but then again I could be wrong. I've been plagued with minor annoying problems...

Keep the 2k for 2-3 more years and then get the 2k3. That way it will cost you less to switch.

Only if its garage kept.

I'd only make the move from a Y2K to the 2K3 if I didnt plan to mod it. Outside of HIDs, Navi, VQ35DE motor and the fact the the 2K3 is 3 yrs newer, there are very little tangible differences between the two.

Peace

Blackcat and Chunger used to have stock pulley. Guess people are just hungry for more power. it's too addictive.

I love my max, it is the family car. I would like a little more juice out of the motor. I want to start auto crossing and try to beat my 1/4 times with some mods. But, it is the family car so I really do not want to get too much hp in a front driver for my wifes sake. 2k3 has the HID's and if I got the 2k3 I don't know if I could find one with the limited slip. Anyone here drive a max with a limited slip?
