I,ve been changing my own oil for quite a few years now and always used conventional oil. In my opinion synthetic oil was an expensive waste of money. However, after viewing all the post's regarding synthetics on this forum, I decided to give synthetic oil a try. I changed to Mobil 1 last weekend because that's what most of you seem to use and all I can say is YOU WERE RIGHT. My Max runs smoother, revs easier and the really good part is ...if the extended change interval of 7500 miles is realistic, I will only have to crawl under my car 3 times a year vs 8 to change my oil! Oh yeah, and according to my math, I will actually be spending LESS annually on oil changes.

Regular oil = 8 changes/year(every 3000 miles)
Oil $ 1.15/qt X 34 qts = $ 39.10
Nissan Filter $ 5.00 x 8 = $40.00
TOTAL Annual Cost $ 79.10

Synthetic oil = 3 changes/year (every 7500 miles)
Mobil 1 $ 4.49/qt x 13 qts = $ 58.37
Nissan Filter $ 5.00 x 3 = $ 15.00
TOTAL Annual Cost $ 73.37

Gotta Love It!

I don't think that you should change it every 7500 miles. I always changed my after 3000 miles regardless of the kind of oil. I switched to mobil 1 tri-syn last year and it was worth every penny. To some it is a waste but i have the money so why not spend it on my baby!!! anyway, i think changing it every 3000-3500 miles is the norm. Am sure others would agree. Right?

Even if it's common it's still excessive with synthetic, waste of money, time and creates excess pollution.
