keyless remote replacement
we've lost a keychain with one of the keyless remotes & one of the 'chip' keys. does anyone know how much this is going to set me back to have replaced? or any options other than going to the dealer to get new ones?
I also lost the extra set of keys and was shocked with the dealer told me the cost. A duplicate key will run you around $90, the remote is $110 and the dealer charges $35 to program it. I purchased my keyless remote off of ebay for $19 and took it to the dealer and told them that it stopped working and they programmed it again for free (oops, did I lie). When I purchased the remote off of ebay it came with instructions on how to program it but I wasn't able to do it. The dealer will inform you that you will need to make an appointment for a key replacement because they have to put the car on the lift. so it's a little more involved than getting a key cut. Hope this help you out.

LOCKDOWN!
So basically we should all lock our extra remotes and keys in a fire proof safe! SH*T!! That's A LOT of money for a remote. Smart move angelay by getting it off of Ebay. And lying to the dealership? Who gives a rats azz...they do it to us all the time and rob us of our money for "Nissan Genuina Quality Parts". Yeah where's the genuine quality in our trannies? (yes back to that). Anyway, despite the amount of money, I'd rather pay it if it means someone can't start my car without the key and can't get the key made without the car (or proper ID). GM did it starting the early to mid 90's (different version but same concept with the key) and boy did they need to...with so many car parts matching up on many different models, GM owners were having cars stolen like hotcakes. Some guy at a gas station out on Long Island had asked me about my car...then he said he works for an insurance company and that it is one of the most stolen cars here in NY (Maxima)...so I'm glad for the key thing
