Just curious, and really...not to start a flame war...but I just can't understand going to those lengths (the HU) for a car (unless a van or SUV where you need to entertain rug rats). Not sure about you, but when I drive I watch the road and traffic, and when I park, I have better places to go. Again, no flame and you can do whatever you want, I guess I just would appreciate some kind of explanation why people in general go for these upgrades.

Thanks!

the touchscreen may look nice (touch screen is pretty cool) and have all those snazzy features, but as far as hardcore features, that's where it lacks. to build a clean sounding system, you're gonna want more preamp voltage. my eclipse outputs @ 8volts. my amps both handle up to 13 volt inputs. the higher votlage, the cleaner the sound.
also, mine isn't touch screen, i don't touch the screen, yet it builds up dust like crazy. oily fingers will mess up the screen, scratch it up, dirty, smudge) you'd have to make sure NO ONE touches it and if they do, use a stylus.
pushing against the screen may loosen it's mechanism where it's being held (push it off it's track, etc...)

may i add the warranty issue and online sale scare me. i like warranty.
enclosure is pretty hot. but $1200!!! that's a lot. i guess if it does turn out that good, then go for it. i like idea B.

a fiberglass install is very time consuming. Any fiberglass install is lots of $$$. 1200 is cheap for what i might be getting done..

Uh, OK. Most of the time I take a girl out our conversation IS the entertainment, but I gotta give it to you for 'show value'.

As said above, of the two, I would opt away from the HU as well.

it's like asking a gardener why the spend $600 on orchids...why they hand clean EVERY leaf.
for show...a hobby...somethign they enjoy doing.
some of us feel t's worth it, others of us don't.
i take a lot of long trips. a nice concert or a movie is good for passengers when in a long trip. or when stuck in traffic, a fight scene can be very entertaining...so there

if ONLY these 2 choices....fiberglass.
if i could, i'd change choice A....better HU. noticable difference in quality, clarity vs. eye-popping features.

I'm with you
Maybe younger people that still live with their parents or have roommates want some privacy. By doing this they can chill in the car anywhere.
Me I've got a very nice home theater in my basement with enough Boom to not only rattle things 2 floors up but in my neighbors houses too

$1200 for any enclosure that seems quite a bit high to me.

again, we bring back the issue of greasing up the screen. i don't touch my screen ever and i still attract dust. imagine with fingers. thumbprints, grease prints, etc... yeah it's cool, but unless you are 100% sure you're gonna use a stylus and no one is gonna do anything stupid, stay away from that feature.

the eclipse 8022 (i have to give it credit, i own it) is a great unit. more than 1200, no touch screen, but it's surround sound features are great, audio options let you decide where there are people (if just you, choose driver, if rear also, you can choose that and music adjusts for listening pleasure)
has 2 inputs and 2 outputs. this is the cool thing. let's say you throw a gamecub in 1 input and a playstation in the other input. now let's say you put 2 more tv's in the headrests (using up both headunit outputs). you can set it so that you can watch a movie on your screen and at AT THE SAME TIME someone can play with the gamecub on screen #2 while screen #3 is playing playstation. now, they wanna switch views. easy, in the view settings, change the output views (movie in the back, gamecube up front)

THAT is a good feature. it's not "cool" like touchscreen. not "cool" like vcd playing. but for the person that wants it for the real hardcore features, that is one sick feature.

I would go w/ the enclosure first, make some room and hide your stuff first. But let me just say....

Dayummm your car looks sweet sitting in that shop. I love the wheels. The mod bug is biting my a$$ pretty hard right now and that look is making me want to shop. Good lookin car man.

isn't the fun of it, doing it yourself.
i know fiberglassing costs money. doing it yourself costs MUCH less. i'm gonna start learning soon so i can fabricate a nice trunk enclosure and that to me will look nicer than taking it to a shop.

If you have to choose...

..between these two look at it this way:

Do you have a LCD screen in there now?

Will the fiber glass enclosure make the subs sound better or is it just for show?

I think $1200 is a lot of quan for either, but I would lean toward gaining a new feature. Doesn't sound like the fiberglass will gain you anything but looks (your car is PHAT already ).

Talk to Dixit too. (BigDogJonx) He has all the goodies too and he did his own trunk. The work is good and the sound is better than it was before I think.

All you need is a block of styrofoam or some plywood and a 8' 2x4 or 2 to make the design. Styrofoam is easiest because it's cheap and the only tools you need are some razor knifes. Then you need a jar of Vaseline, the glass fabric, some paintbrushes and epoxy or polyester resin. (epoxy is stronger but has less working time)
You make it in 2 half’s and join the 2 together with strips of the fabric on the inside of the seam and fill the groove on the outside with a resin and filler mix (for easy sanding) then sand the thing down and paint.
Drill your holes for mounting then glue some wood blocks behind the holes for strength. Mount your sheeit and you’re done. I can't see this costing more the a couple bones. You can find better instructions on line I'm sure but that's the jist of it.

It sounds like he already has a damn nice system.

Or maybe a short, say 3 or 4 day trip: Jamaica, Bahamas, etc...
