Anyone have a Y-pipe install writeup???

My Cattman y-pipe is coming in the mail this Monday (i hope) and i was wondering if anyone has a writeup for the install. Ive heard this is a pain in the a$$ to try to do yourself...how true is that?? There is a local shop called Radicals here that said they would install it for $75...which i think is a little high...and i dont really trust any of their work. Anyway...thanks in advance!

The only thing I would recommend is you go to a merlins or somewhere, and have tem loosen the 3 bolts for you under the precat. If you have a 2001 you will loose the precat. The darn cat is difficult to get a socket around to get to the nuts, I used a u-joint and extension and split the socket. For $10 the local merlins guy loosened them for me and I did the install myself, pretty easy, actually.

Good luck!

loosen the bolts as in take it in to the shop and have them loosen the bolts and than drive home and do the install?? or do the install there?? That wouldnt cause a problem driving with the 3 loose bolts??

loosened, not loose, so it'll be easier to get them loose

Chances are the nuts are rusted on for one. Secondly they will need an impact wrench with extension and u-joint to loosen them up. Do not use an impact wrench and regular sockets, you will shatter them, they are not made to take that abuse.

Then you jack up the car, use jackstands, and remove the o2 sensors first, then the pipe. once you have the new pipe on the 3 nuts will be very easy to get at, as opposed to the stock one with cat.

Hope this helps!
