To anyone with a Frankencar intake...

Did you lose any low-end torque going from stock intake to Frankercar? I'm not big on racing, to me the most important thing is low-end torque. I like quick pickup. I was thinking of ordering a Frankercar intake w/ Apexi if they ever come off back order.

Thanks for any input.

You will lose low end torque with any WAI that doesn't include a midpipe. I originally had a Berk intake with no midpipe. I then ordered the FrankenCar and noticed an immediate difference in low end torque. This said, the Injen probably still has a little more low end torque, but the FrankenCar has a much wider torque range. Nothing looks as pretty as the Injen though. Blubyu2k2 has both.

But doesn't a Frankencar include a midpipe?

That's the thing, I never see 6500. I'm concerned with idle through 5000-5500.

I never touch redline either. I usually shift @ 4 or 5500k when I'm "gettin' on it". Most of the time I shift at 3-3500. I have never regretted the purchase of the intake.

Yes it does come with the midpipe. I was trying to give you a reference to why most people state you lose low end torque with WAI's. That's a true statement for WAI's that don't have the midpipe included and it's very noticeable. The FrankenCar gave my low end torque back.

FU*K YEAH!!!! The sound KICKS A$$. Just had it installed and I FU*KIN LOVE THE FU*KIN SOUND. WWWWWWWWWWROOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! But no, I didn't notice any loss in the low end torque. After hitting past 3500 rpms, it does seem to rev a little faster though. FRANKEN IS WORTH IT!!! lol.

I've switched to the Firm intake with a MAF adapter from Advanced Auto parts so I could keep my Stillen. It works very well.

i've had both injen and frankencar. I notice no difference on the low end... but on freeway runs the car struggles much less with the short mid pipe than the long injen piping.

Another thing I noticed is that after long drives in hot weather, the injen piping would be so hot that I couldn't even touch it. The frankencar is only mildly warm in the same situation.

Another advantage for the FrankenCar intake is it's quiet under normal driving. Quiet meaning it's hardly any louder than the stock intake. At 3500k you start to hear it and at 4k it feels like a turbo kicking in. Everyone reports the thrust you feel at 4k, but the strange thing is there is no hp or tq boost on our dyno's. Don't understand that one, but it's definately noticeable.

Just out of curiousity, which intake sounded better to you?

IMO, the frankencar sounds better in all rpm ranges hands down.

To be honest I like the Firm. With the Frank when I got to 5500+ rpms it really screamed at a higher pitch and had this weird reveberation I don't know if it's because of the MAF or what. With the firm it still sounds real good it's just a little deeper.

I had ordered a adapter from Steve but I didn't get it till yesterday and I think it's for a 3.0 not a 3.5(maybe that's just the way steve does it) The diameter is like 67mm the one I got from Advanced is 70mm.
The MAF is 70mm and the Firm mid I.D. 70mm. I had cut the crimp cut ends off of the Frank which were 68mm at the edge. After cutting those edges off the Frank the I.D. is 72mm. The inlet side of the TB is 74mm but I'm told the back end of the TB is 70mm.

There is no doubt about it, the Firm Fabrications intake looks very nice.

The FrankenCar did not give me any noticable loss in any range. I definately feel an improved Mid and High Range. The sound that the VQ35 makes with the Frank is awesome. The Injen sounds good, but much more tame IMO.

Frankencar has the best sound. Injen looks the best. GAB performs the best.

Happen to know who makes the filter on the Firm? Thinking of buying one myself.

Thanks!
