Getting rid of bass rattle - attempted.
Well, I decided to try and get rid of that crappy *** Bose rear deck rattle using some mattress liner and spray glue. Took me way, WAY longer than I had anticipated (~3.5 - 4hours), and there is still a rattle there, albeit a smaller, newer one. All in all, a good learning experience for me, as I don't usually work on cars at all. I did mangle the inside of the A-pillar in the back, but it's on the inside of the plastic, so it isn't visible. I suggest this for anyone who wants a somewhat easy solution to bad rattles in the back of their Max.

See I did this mod and my rattle completely stopped. I hate 2 hard hitting 12" subs. Did you completly cover the rear deck with foam. My homepage has some pics of the size of piece I used. Another thing that will help is if you wedge something under those child saftey hooks, holding the deck down makes a world of a difference. Mine stuff up due to the newly added foam, so shoving something under the saftey hooks is just what I needed to do to level out my rear deck again.

I glued the pieces to all of the places where there was a solid piece of deck to glue them on, being careful not to cover up the holes for the clips and the child seat hooks things. I had a horrible time with keeping the deck down because the foam was pretty thick, and I think it's still not going to be held down very well because of the excess pressure from the foam.
Where/waht would I wedge under the safety seat things? Did you put it between the plastic covers and the metal hooks, or what?

That is a link to my page. Scroll down to the very bottom and you can see what I wedged under the metal clip and the rear deck. It was a piece left over from when I sound deadened my trunk. The foam I used was a little thinner than what I think most people are using so it fit pretty good, but still was too thick.

Oh wow.. you took the whole deck out - I kept it on the folded down seats because I did not take it off the seat belts. Yours looks better than mine for sure, as mine is just 2 big peices and 3 smaller ones - noy an exact fit, but it was good enough. I cant really see where you wedged the foam
Also, were you able to lock the back 3 clips back on? I could not reach them or get them to slide back in place.. bah.

I did get all clips to snap back on except for one center one, but when I added those pieces under the anchors it held it down just fine. Just PM if you got anymore question. I'm going to bed. hehe sorry.

one other solution you may wish to try, is removing the child restraint hooks. I had a rattle from one of them, and seeming how I have no plans to have kids anytime soon, I just took them out...all they are is 12mm bolts. Undo them and they will pop right out...I did the mattress padding mod, too and I have no rattles either

I don't have the Bose system, mine is the completely stock. However, when I play the music loudly, I notice that my driver side mirror vibrates the more than the rearview and the passenger side mirror.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I did the foam and like you said...it still rattles. The only way I completely get rid of the rattle was to lay dynamat on the whole rear reck. It cost $60 to get enough to cover the whole thing but it was worth it. I also layed it under where the Bose sub mounts to the rear deck. No more buzzing at all, now if only 31 on Bose would go louder.

I put a Rockfordfosgate Dual voice coil 8" in and took the bose POS out. ANd put a rockford 250 watt mono block amp on it. Sounds good looks stock and I still have my trunk. No rattles. I did the dynamat as well.

OK! I barely have any rattle. I took off the rear deck and added tons of foam and carpet insulation...lol When i put the deck back down...there was still a little gap between the window and the rear deck. When the bass hits, the deck hits the window thus causing a rattle. SOO i made another visit to the household interior store and picked up some .5 cm black foam shiiit. I stuffed that between the window and the deck. Its towards the bottom of the deck so you cannot see it from the outside. ALSO The thing that holds the seat belt in also rattles. So i added some foam in between the top of that and the deck. ALSO I put dynamat under each child car seat thingy and the deck. BASICALLY...i put so much **** under the deck it is hard as a ROCK. END RESULT...NO RATTLE!!! MY damn rear deck is like a fire hazard...its stuffed with tons of crap..but hey! You cannot see it..lol

The thing is...it's not just the rear deck that is rattling. That's why I have a hard time believing anyone who says foam alone does the trick. Foam may make is better, but it's not going to completely get rid of the rattle. I had my rear deck removed from the car and sitting 15 feet away in my garage and the metal rear deck was still rattling like crazy. The seat belt assemblies rattle, the child restraints rattle, and the small metal plate that the Bose attaches to rattles on the main metal deck. The only way to sound deaden all of these things is to lay dynamat on top of it and between the 2 plates where the Bose mounts.

The BOSE sucks...tats why i took mine out. Unscrew the thing and take it out. That solves a lot. As far as the seat belt assemblies and the child restraints, I stuffed foam between the top of them and the rear deck. That prevents them from moving at all. I have tons of dynamt on the bottom(under) of the rear deck inside the trunk.
As i said before...do all this stuff and youll have NO RATTLE!
