Yes it's that bad. Change it now! Get it flushed and put in either Redline, Amsoil or Mobil 1 fluid and it should be ok for another 50k or so.

Yes especially if it's stock dino oil. dino is supposed to be better for the syncros but I use Redline MT-90 and the car shifts much smoother. I would change it every 30k regardless if it were dino or synth.

check your manual for service intervals, don't listen to anybody and save $$$. Use the same fluid that Nissan uses at the factory. You see that peeps with Redline and other fluids are having tranny probs all the time and then complain.

Manual says 30k. 50k is a bit much for the original oil. Flushing some through it isn't a bad idea either.

Who here has used Redline and has developed tranny problems???
I ask because I just bought some Redline MT-90 to do a tranny fluid change and in my research, I never found anyone having tranny problems that used the stuff. Please school me if this is the case.

Problems all the time might be a bit exaggerated, but I do recall a number of threads several months ago where people had tried to use synthetics in their MT's (primarily 6-speeds) and had actually encountered more notchiness than with the stock fluid. I tried searching for the threads but could not locate them, although I distinctly remember seeing comments of this nature.

I've used MT-90 since virtually new and have had no problems at all.

I think I have the instructs somewere but...

It is much easier if you do not have your stock airbox.

If you are facing the front of the car and look down at the tranny you will see a bolt into which you can fit a 1/2" ratchet. That is the fill hole. If you have the airbox it won't stand right out at you - you'll have to look.

Harder to find is the drain hole. It is simply a bolt on the bottom of the tranny. The best way to describe it is the bolt is slightly different than the other bolts on the bottom of the tranny and is located near the front of the tranny next to a support.

It looks as if the bolt will not come out because the support is in the way, but it will. The both does not have any marking unfortunately. When I had mine changed at the jiffy lube (was getting oil changed and didn't feel like dealing with fluid disposal) the guy who worked there couldn't find it.

I had to go down and locate the bolt.

It might be different for a 2k2/2k3.

I have about 10k on my 03', and I have changed mine three times now, the first time right to Redline, then to BG Synchroshift, and now to BG Synchroshift II. The BG SS II is great stuff. And yes, I am a bit **** about car maintanance.

Thanks, I have eight years of practice under my belt.

The runs actually were on the OEM Potenza's @ 22psi in the front and 52psi in the rear.

I had Redline MT-90 in my 99', changed at to it at 1K and did a change at 30k. Traded it in with 45k, no problems drove like a dream. I put it in my 02' at 1k and I now have 10.5k. No problems.
In both cars it got rid of the notchiness in 1st & 2nd. I lot of people complain about a notchy 3rd but I haven't experienced it.
