Cool interior lighting mod....

over the weekend, i had a couple hours free, so i wired in my rear speakers FINALLY, and while the door panel off, my partner in crime started messing around with my window switch....we were none too pleased with the green dullness it had to it...so we fixed that. an LED and a resistor turned into this......

pictures are here - Window Switch

only one window was done, the others will get done as i find free time. WARNING: there are 2 small shiny bearings that control the window switch. if you open up the window switch, make sure they don't pop out. if they do, put them in a safe place or you'll lose them. btw, does anyone have an extra window switch, i lost my bearings..

i know this was done already, but just wnated to post again, since many of us prolly don't know about this mod. really cleans up the interior. i hate the green dullness.

I was looking to do this, but the instructions I had were for a 2000-2001. The 2002&2003 have a different LED in there. It was mounted in a plastic circle so I just got scared.

If you do do (he he) this mod can you post a write up with the MCD and voltage of the LEDs you used? Funny, the guy said the same thing about the other switch...he broke his too

Could a ring of LED's be constructed and installed in the instrument cluster behind each gauge? I know some have mentioned being a little disappointed with the bleak standard lighting. Is the intensity of LED's adjustable???? I don't know much about them....

Todd, you read my mind...that's our next project...probably next weekend we plan on taking apart the cluster and looking at what we can do to brighten it up.

no, as far as info, i asked my partner in crime (he's the one that likes to play with LED's and the one that did this for me) and said the resistors were 515ohms, and the LED's were 3.5V and he's not sure but he THINKS they were 3000MCD, but he's not 100% sure. i know we purchased all the LED's at superbrightleds.com

now i asked him if he's willing to do this to other cars. he said yeah, but he's got no job, so he's broke, so he's charging (hey, we all gotta live somehow)..he supplies all materials (resistors, led's, and etc...) $5 per window switch. that's 1 for each door plus 4 for the drivers side door (4 switches there) so 7 switches total = $35.

the boy is broke and is in desperate need of a job, so he does side jobs like this for little money.
btw, he also does audio installs (had to advertise for him somehow) and any other electronic jobs.

Polo, How did you remove the door panels, whenever I try I'm always scared I'm gonna break something and I end up quiting. Also, I remember a while back you had soundproofed your doors with some blue spray (that's what I'm looking to do); did you notice any difference in creaks/rattles and road noise??

1) nice wheels
2) lower the ride
3) change that pic or erase that damn dress barn from the background!!

4) the scary part is removing the door handle trim. other than that, once you take that off, you remove 2 screws. 1 on the top right and the other insdie the "ash tray looking" part of the door handle. pull the window/door lock section off, disconnect. from below, feel for a wedge section, get a good grip and tug, the clips should pop off with it or get a clip popper and go along the side, poppin off each clip. it's very easy to do.
yeah, i got noise/wind reduction from the fronts and i wasn't too sure if i'd get less vibration from the sysem but i know someone who's running close to the same setup as me as far as components/amps go and he didn't dynamat or sound deaden it and he vibrates, so i did it more as a preventive maintenance and luckily, it worked cause i don't rattle when i bump the system.

Thanks man, I'll give it another shot. BTW, I am lowered w/H&Rs (~1mm drop). I used to have eibachs which were a bit lower but they were too stiff for me.

supply tools you say...you name the tool, he owns it...he's even got a 0awg stripper and crimper. not many people that actually own one of those things.
he's got everything he needs. so you just want to swap HU's and connect current sirius onto new headunit. and you have all wiring/adapters/etc... needed. i dont' see why he wouldn't do that. seems like a simple job compared to what we did to my car. btw, he did my whole system (or rather, we both did it) so he's pretty good at installations of the sort. email me yo ur celly, and he'll call you. he's pretty much avail. 24/7 since again, no job, so whatever money he makes is good money.

That is sweet! A few questions though, I was wondering if those bulbs being brighter will create more heat? Could they start melting things? Sort of along the line of higher voltage Headlights ( us non HID people ) mealting the wiring harness? Im not saying it will just wondering if that has been thought about? SPAT97 could u send me those directions?

LED's dont' generate heat, and if they do, it's like .00000000000000000000000000000001% of heat. so that is the LAST thing i would worry about.

actually isn't that hard. i have more info for those that wanna attack this job.

the resistors are from radio shack, they 470 ohms, .25 watt, 5% tolerance. the led's are 2500MCD. i simply soldered them onto the contacts and that was it. there was no "trick" or anything. only part is to watch out for those small bearings. i lost one and now my window won't open. for a stupid bearing about 1mm in size.

yeah Marco I applaud your efforts, definitely makes the switches brighter but with my luck I'd prolly solder my fingers together, if not the whole door

no need to know the part no. bro. just go there, and int he resistors section, it's all in plain site. look for the .25 watt section and then look for the 470 ohm. there is no way to mistake it what so ever. $0.99 for a pack of 5.
beleive me, NO WAY to mistake it. just don't get the 4.7k ohm thinking those are them, because they say "470-ohm"
