Super glue! j/k

I've never had any problems with it going up on me unless I accidentally tap it. You can keep your arm out of the area, but I take it you like holding your shifter while driving.

I had that problem and have resolved that that is not a very smart implemtation of an other wise good Idea. After about 3000 mile of drivind you will train yourself where not to place your arm

I used 1/2 a roll of duct tape and wrapped that sucker up real good! It even sort of matches my interior.

Seriously, it was getting pretty annoying, especially with a 5 speed, but sooner or later your elbow will lose it's attraction to that spot and you'll learn where you CAN rest it without casuing that thing to pop up at the wrong time.

Hang in there! You get used to it -- Like Maximizd said, you can learn how to not do it. I have the 5 speed and it was annoying to pop up the armrest all the time. It doesn't happen too much anymore, although I've been storing a CD case in there, and the lid doesn't quite close all the way -- its firm enough to rest your arm on and has some spring to it so that it doesn't pop up all the time anymore....
