HID theft prevention

I am close to purchasing a 2K2/K3 Maxima and was wondering what you guys have done to prevent your HIDs from being stolen. That is, besides park it in a garage. I'm aware of the hoodlock kit that Nissan offers. Is this something you can lock/unlock from inside the car? Thanks.

Re: Re: HID theft prevention

I put a Viper 790xv in my car also. It works pretty good...if you bump the headlights the the alarm chirps to warn away people. I you hit the lights a little harder the alarm goes off and the remote lets you know the alarm was tripped. It helps!!!!!

that is incorrect......

the 03 is exactly the same as the 02, altho dealers (mine for 1 example) have put in HID anti-theft bolts to deter the theft..

bottomline tho, if they want it, it's theirs....they can just crowbar em out...

Like I said changes have been made to prevent theft
The service dept where I live has not have one o3 Nissan of any model come in with missing HIDS

Of course it is not impossible

this "change" as you refer to it, is available for both 02's and 03's...some dealers have opted for these bolts merely to cut down on theft in their lots, they could give two ***** bout what happens to the car once it leaves their possession.

I went to the Nissan service Dept to have the cd player replaced on my 03 because it was skipping. There were two other people there with 03 cars. One had bought his 3 weeks ago and another had bought his month ago, from the date I was there. Plus there was another 03 in the shop getting new lights put in because of theft...The service writers were the ones that recommended me to put the Viper 790XV.......What are the bolts that you are talking about to help prevent theft...Is there a link for info????

in my opinion, someone should fabricate a metal place whihc can replace the upper housing tabs, and wrap around the assembly as much as possible, etc...epoxy that biach to the housings and use anti theft bolts.

someone months back was making a template that completely surrounded the HIDs with metal, I don't know if he ever completed it. The other problem is letting a wood-be thief know your HID's are protected... Otherwise, they might do more damage to you're front end.

If you swap out the HID's will it work? Has anyone done it b4? Do you have pics of your 2k3 max with 2k1 lights? I'm thinking about doing that.

It can be done. You will have to modify the wires and change the plastic clip in the bumper for the 2k1 light to fit securely in the 2k3 bumper and vice-versa. If interested to swap I am in NY and would assume the headache of the 2k3 lights getting stolen. Give ah brotha ah holla.

That's what I said, but the dealer said it won't work. And my mechanic said that they tried and there's a gap or something in the front. Water can leak in he said. Anyone done it b4 and has pics of it? Much appreciated

The sad thing is that you don't even need a crowbar..

Water can leak in where?? The reason there may have been a gap is probably they did not change the clip that is in the 2k2-2k3 bumper with that of the 2k-2k1 bumper clip to accomodate that model light. The clip is different and it is used to hold the assembly in place
