First time to track with 2002 auto

Went to the track as a spectator last friday and decided for $10. I would give it a shot with the max. I have bracket raced before but never with the max. I had a full tank of 91 octane(always run 93 octane...long story),2 pair of rollerblades in the trunk, 87 degrees and a 45 minute heatsoak drive to the track.
Car has all options (weighs as much as a max can weigh)
completely stock.
1200rpm stall
traction control off
32 psi all around
manual shift at redline
1st 2nd 3rd only no OD during run

1st run
r/t.. .650
60'... 2.302
330'... 6.469
1/8... 9.873
mph... 73
1000.. 12.783
1/4...15.250
mph...91.57

ran twice.. second run

r/t.. .576
60'... 2.338
330'... 6.504
1/8... 9.899
mph... 73.11
1000.. 12.811
1/4... 15.295
mph... 91.10

any thoughts on what might happen with less tha 1/4 tank/no blades in trunk. I did some research and found gas is 2lbs /litre so I had at least 100 lbs extra in the tank.

That doesn't sound too bad for stock tires and 87* weather. Also what was the humidity like? Your 60' could be improved, but it doesn't look like you were spinning too much. When you go again have as little gas in the tank as safely possible, remove the spare & jack, experiment with the front tire pressures, and over-inflate the rears to about 40 psi. Try to go whan it's a cooler day out and experiment with the brake-tq rpm drop.

With better weather and less weight you should be able to hit some 14's.

the MPH is bad...60's will only put him at 15 flat. should be faster. Take the car to the dealer and get all TSbs done. your car is not as strong as it should be...

I disagree, for that temperature 91.5 mph isn't bad, espcially considering he did zero weight loss.

work on your 60's. I remember last summer when all I had was an intake the best I was able to manage was a 14.8 @ 92 but that was in 95 degrees and 90% humidity. Work on your launches which will yeild a better ET and up your trap speeds slightly. For the weather you aren't too far off of what your capable of. Run it when its cooler and you will trap 93-94 easy.

The TSB's I agree with, but the brake torque on a 3.5 auto? i dont know about that. From what I know the 3.5 auto is more then capable of burnin up the tires allt he way through 1st, our 3.0s can benafit from this but im gonna say with the 3.5 it will cause nothin but wheelspin unless you got slicks...

I thought on the 3.5s you shift sooner than redline for the best times.

No and the reason for that is too stay farther into power band. I shift as deep into redine in 2nd as a can too push me a little farther into the power band in the tall *** 3rd gear.

I manually shift my auto when the needle hits the 6000-6100 RPM point (car doesn't shift until redline then). If you shift earlier, you lose all that "RPM ground" and slightly fall under the top acceleration curve for our car. It's only .2-.3 seconds difference between the shifting methods, but that .2-.3 seconds could be what's keeping you from times like high 14's...

Work on those 60 ft times... The hole shot is the money maker for the 2k2 auto's

My best 93+ degree run was:

14.822@92.8 mph with a 2.21 60 ft time.. I did have about 1/4 tank of gas left, and no spare tire in the trunk. Completely stock no mods.

1st gear = redline
2nd gear = 5900 rpm
3rd gear = all the way to the finish

2nd time to the track....

Well 2nd time out was better by far...
1/4 tank of 93 octane
Removed amsoil filter and cleaned all the oil out of my intake and
throttle body and put the stock airfilter back in the stock air box..
Car has all options (weighs as much as a max can weigh)
completely stock.
1800 rpm stall
traction control off
32 psi all around
manual shift at redline
1st 2nd 3rd only no OD during run

the 1st run

r/t.. .838
60'... 2.252
330'... 6.221
1/8... 9.495
mph... 75.65
1000.. 12.333
1/4...14.77
mph...92.75

I hit the rev limiter before 3rd on run #1 took about 1 second to get of the limiter which is why I think I got a better mph on my 2nd run

ran twice.. second run

r/t.. .415 red light
60'... 2.246
330'... 6.258
1/8... 9.559
mph... 75.20
1000.. 12.394
1/4... 14.805
mph... 93.92

it was 75* ... it went down to about 62 but I didn't want to go thru the lines again. When I first got there you could take a run and go right back around and be next up. By the time the sun went down and it was cool there were 4 lanes with about 40 cars in each.
The guy I went up against first run was in a 2 dr GTP. He had a diff. super charger pully and a cold air intake and ran a 14.69 against my 14.77.He was dropping as the temp dropped. His last run was 14.59 in the cooler temp so I might have been able to get near a 14.69. I was happy with what I got. I just wanted to know I wasn't a 15 plus Maxima and that all the oil that went thru my intake(MAF) didn't mess anything up.
My second run I got a suprise... went up against a old sleeper civic He had a factory exhaust and factory steel wheels and a few primer spots. I heard a screech on the last yellow and he was off he red lighted but he got a 13.80 at 101.5mph. I talked to him and he said it wasall motor.. It was a _18 dont remember the letter but it just had cams in it.
