Contemplating Swap: HIDs to A/E Halogens

Car is only 2 weeks old, have not been hit yet, but knowing the consequences I'm thinking of swapping to A/E Halogens. Just a couple of questions guys:

1) I read off one of the past posts that it's as simple as swapping out the headlights and plugging in the wires into the new headlights. Is this true? If not, what else must be done?

2) Exactly what parts would I need to buy to do the conversion aside from the A/E headlight housings? Wanna get an idea of the damage...lol

Thanks guys!

You need to switch out the harnesses. It is not just plug and play.

Where do you live?

Yeah, Where do you live, maybe a few of us could come over and help with the removal part. You dont even have to be around to watch. LOL

You'll need to buy the harness for a 2k-2k1 and wiring them to yours. Here's a diagram from a 2k1. Just follow this on yours to make the AE headlights work:

I have a 2001 max. I was thinking about switching to HIDs but all of you are doing the reverse. I live in Texas so i dont have as big of a problem as "y'all do but i think if you can just buy the housing for the 2001 AE and custom fit the HIDs you wouldn't have a problem. The crooks probably know what housing they are looking for (the difference between 00-01 and 02-03). Though they may see you rolling up but still it makes things cheaper.

on a 2k/1, 12V is constant, ground is switched..

on a 2k2, the high & low beams have their own wires.

so you'll be going from 4 wires to 3. Its not a problem, you just need to know that going in and have a multitestor close by to make sure you get the right switching.

For you guys that coverted, you arent powering low and high at the same time are you?

What are you planning to do with you HIDs?

Juss wait until they get stolen before you install the AEs, that's what I'm doing. (Just hoping they don't get stolen at all though)

What Kid said.

Probably sit in the garage or maybe I can use the ballast/HIDS and put them on my GTI.

But yeah, thanks so much guys. It's just the A/E headlights and the harnesses that I'll need. I'll have to shop around for prices on that.

BTW, I'm from NYC.
