lost key, help!

2000 maxima SE...lost my keys, it was my only one...dealer wants 60 for the tow, 75 for a key and 100 for a transmitter....nissan dealer the only place that can re-issue a key since there's a chip in it? i think i can get a transmitter cheaper elsewhere so i'd only be worried about the key but, before i plunk down 150 bucks and have them slap my car onto the flatbed, alarm going off and all...i figured i'd ask...thanks for the help

$60 for the tow, not bad.
$75 for a key, not bad again.
Nissan is the only place to get a key to start the car I think because it has a chip in it.
You can get a key fob off of ebay with instructions to program it yourself for really cheap.

My dealer told me $80 for a key with chip, $40 for key with out it.

Sounds about right all said and done... Not to say they aren't ripping _everyone_ off on the keys and programming but you're kinda at their mercy. Get some lube

You could call Dave B up and have him ship you a anniversary key for around 30ish dollars if memory serves me right. Take that key to the dealer and have them reprogram it. Now that cost about 70 bucks to do. NOw on the towing. Check your insurance. Sometime insurances will cover tow trucks for certain miles or certain price. Just thought i'd let u know.

The anniversary key does not work on all 5th Gen. I have a 2K built in the late 99 and the key does not work on my ignition.

One more thing, before you buy that key fob from Ebay, make sure that you buy one with the correct FCC ID and part number according to your car's production date. Otherwise it will not work. Good luck.

Are you sure. You may want to check that again. I have one of the first 2000 max's built. and it worked fine for me.

I went to 2 different dealers and they said that the key won't work.
