cigarette lighter for an '03

I got a cigarette lighter from courtesy Nissan for my '03 SE and it fits loose in the socket. Am I missing something here or did I just receive the wrong part? The diameter of the lighter itself is just too small to fit snug into the socket. Can someone help? Thanks.

More than likely its a wrong part. Or, there might be a plastic shim, with a few slits cut in it, that slips arounsd the body of the lighter to make it fit.

i can believe it could be a wrong part but a plastic shim around a cigarette lighter element is looking for trouble... The thing gets pretty hot, what would happen to the plastic?

Nevermind, that shim is for european plugs. They are a bit bigger in diameter. Ur only supposed to use it with accesories (radar detector, etc..) not the lighter. My bad..

that's so annoying how my car didn't come with a lighter. Why on earth is the ashtray fuzzy anyhow? Are they trying to make subtle discouragements against smoking? heh

I got my dealer to throw in the ashtray and lighter kit when I bought my 2K2. Besides the lighter there is a socket that replaces the stock one. You'll need that for the lighter to work.

Funny thing is that I never installed it...and I can't even find it right now, otherwise I could give you the part #.

The lighter socket you have in your car is not really for a lighter. Its a 12v 110watts socket for accessories. If the 2003 setup same as 2002 you have to purchase an ashtray kit P/N F8810-3Y125, it comes with ash tray , cigarette lighter assy., and bezel. You will have to take the center console apart to replace the existing socket with the one necessary for the lighter to work.Very simple instructions are incleded with the kit.I did the conversion and i dont even smoke , and i'd be damned if someone smokes in my car.OH you can get the kit from courtesy too.

Thanks guys. I found out there is a replacement socket which the lighter fits into. So, I'll probably send the lighter back since I don't want to go through the hassle of removing my console.
